Senior Construction Inspector (Owner Verification Representative)

AECOM is actively seeking experienced Senior Construction Inspectors to join the SR 400 Express Lanes Owner Verification (OV) team in Alpharetta GA. This role  offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a landmark infrastructure initiativeadding two express lanes in each direction along a 16-mile corridor from I-285 in Sandy Springs to north of the Fulton/Forsyth County line. This $4.6 Billion project also includes the construction or replacement of over twenty-five bridges and four Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stations and is managed under GDOTs first Public-Private Partnership (P3) Concession Transportation Project.

As part of a collocated team under GDOTs management the Senior Construction Inspector will play a critical role in construction oversight materials inspection and compliance verification. This position reports directly to the Construction OV Manager and offers the opportunity to work on one of the most complex and high-profile transportation projects in the country.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead inspections of roadway and bridge construction activities for compliance with contract specifications.
• Provide specialized inspections and written reports for bridge construction and OV activities.
• Supervise and mentor junior-level technicians performing OV audits and inspections.
• Function as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Developer activities including remediation and repair reviews.
• Monitor the Developers on-site construction activities and inspect materials entering into the work in accordance with the plans specifications and special provisions of the Developers Contract.
• Perform oversight inspection and verification of materials sampling and testing in accordance with the Projects Construction Quality Assurance Program (CQAP).
• Monitor the required sampling and testing of component materials and complete work in accordance with the Departments and Project Quick Guide Schedule and the CQAP.
• Attend pre-activity meetings with the Developers Contractor and Independent Quality Assurance Firm (IQF).
• Monitor construction progress quality and discrepancies; coordinate with IQF to resolve issues.
• Monitor and verify that the Developers IQF inputs all QA materials sampling and testing information into the Departments Materials database on time.
• Ensure material certification requirements are met for Final Acceptance.
• Perform contract administrative duties and maintain required documentation.

Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School and 6 years of roadway construction inspection experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
• Experience in transportation construction inspection including heavy civil bridge and roadway projects.
• Thorough knowledge of specifications and standards acceptable construction practices materials methods and equipment used in both general highway construction and specialized bridge construction.
• Proficienct and knowledge of mathematical functions including algebra geometry and trigonometry.
• Experience in reading and interpreting complex construction plans and reports (BFI pile driving drilled shafts).
• Experience working independently and make informed decisions in the field.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety practices in construction environments.
• Valid US Drivers License required to regularly drive AECOM vehicles to project sites. As a condition of employment selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
  • Graduation from a university with a degree in civil engineering or from a four-year college with a degree in civil engineering technology or construction management and three (3) years of progressive transportation inspection experience.
  • Graduation from a two-year technical college with a degree in civil engineering technology or construction management and eight (8) years of progressive transportation technician experience.
  • Graduation from high school and fifteen (15) years of progressive roadway construction inspection experience as an employee or OV for a State Highway Agency; or an equivalent combination of training and related experience.

• Experience with alternative delivery methods and Public-Private Partnership (P3) projects.
• Supervisory experience in construction inspection roles.
• Certifications from GDOT or technical organizations such as:
  • American Concrete Institute (ACI)
  • Post-Tensioning Institute (PTI)
• Familiarity with GDOT systems like Assure-It and e-Builder.
• Proficient communication skills - written and verbal.
• Advanced mathematical skills - algebra geometry and trigonometry.

Additional Information :

• Work in various field conditions including heights live traffic water proximity and adverse weather.
• Maintain flexible work hours including day or night shifts as required by the contractors schedule.
