Job Summary

Under the general guidance of the Stormwater Program Coordinator the Stormwater Inspector performs mid-level work of moderate complexity and a moderate level of discretion in decision making. The Stormwater Inspector performs compliance inspections related to stormwater ordinances and the MS4 permit. The Inspector shall be responsible for the oversight and inspection of structural and nonstructural stormwater controls during active construction and post construction activities.

Essential Duties & Required Qualifications

  • Required Education and Experience
    • High School diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum of two (2) years of full-time inspection experience in land construction development for a private company or governmental entity.
  • Required Certificate and Licenses
    • Valid Drivers License from any U.S. State. (Approximately 70% driving time or off-site work utilizing a City vehicle.)
    • Must possess or must obtain within one year of hire an NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) Certification or equivalent stormwater certification through or a CISEC (Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Associatesdegree or higher in engineering or related field from an accredited college or university.
    • Three (3) or more years of inspection experience in land construction development for a private company or governmental entity.
    • One (1) year or more of communicating with the public.
    • Experience with Microsoft Word Excel or Bluebeam.

  • Ability to work hours other than the regular daytime schedule such as shift work on call or emergency response situations (i.e. early-mornings afternoons evenings and late-nights shifts weekends).
  • Ability to wear city provided uniform and city issued personal protective equipment such as steel-toed leather boots gloves eye protection head protection safety vest and ear protection as required.
  • Ability to comply with the Citys safety procedures and usage of safety equipment.
  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with City employees the public elected officials and boards and commissions.

Physical Demands & Additional Information

Working Environment
While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but occasionally loud.
