Hiring Range:

Tech I: $21.00 - $23.50/hour

Tech II: $23.65 - $26.50/hour

Tech III: $27.50 - $31.25/hour

(placement depends on experience certifications and qualifications)

Position Overview

This Job Description outlines the basic requirements duties and general responsibilities of the position of Parks Irrigation Technician. Unless modified by a written Employment Agreement this position is at-will which means the Ken-Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District (District) may terminate the employment relationship at any time and for any lawful reason subject only to federal and state law. Similarly the employee may terminate the employment relationship at any time without notice and for any reason.


Job Summary

Under the direction of the Parks Supervisor the Parks Irrigation Technician is responsible for the daily maintenance repair inspection and operation of irrigation systems throughout the Districts parks open spaces and athletic fields.


Essential Functions

The following are primary duties of the position; additional responsibilities may be assigned:

Inspect and maintain irrigation systems on a regular basis including repair of mainlines valves lateral lines sprinkler heads and controllers.

Operate troubleshoot program and repair irrigation controllers.

Conduct annual inspections of irrigation backflow preventers in compliance with industry standards.

Read and record water meter data.

Identify problem areas such as dry turf or overwatering and implement corrective measures in consultation with the Parks Supervisor.

Assist in developing and adjusting watering programs to meet seasonal conditions conservation practices and budgetary goals.

Install new sprinkler systems and make improvements to existing systems.

Maintain irrigation parts inventory to ensure timely access to repair materials.

Safely operate equipment and tools including but not limited to: front-end loader backhoe skid steer trencher sod cutter snowplow dump truck stump grinder chipper bucket truck chain saw and hand tools.

Lead train and monitor staff in irrigation practices safety procedures and equipment operation (Tech II and III levels).

Provide excellent customer service to residents and respond professionally to public inquiries.

Consistently promotes a positive professional image of the district and always provides excellent customer service while demonstrating the districts core values of respect accountability integrity continuous improvement engagement and relationship building.


Authority Exercised

Technician I: May lead seasonal staff.

Technician II: Leads seasonal staff; assists in training lower-level Technicians.

Technician III: Leads Park Technicians and seasonal staff; serves as advanced-level resource.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications (All Levels)

Age 18 or older.

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Valid Colorado Drivers License with an acceptable driving record and minimum of two years of driving history.

Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.

Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds regularly.


Education & Experience by Level


Technician I (Entry-Level)

Entry-level role; six (6) months of irrigation or related experience preferred.

Knowledge of District parks and greenbelt locations within six (6) months of hire.

Must obtain Flagger Certification and CPR/First Aid/AED Certification within one (1) year of hire.

Technician II (Mid-Level)

Minimum of two (2) years of irrigation technician experience.

Must demonstrate ability to independently perform full range of irrigation maintenance within one (1) year.

Must obtain the following certifications within one (1) year of hire:

o Flagger Certification

o CPR/First Aid/AED Certification

o Colorado Cross Connection Technician Certification (or ability to obtain)

Must initiate Colorado Certified Operator Pesticide Applicator License in Turf and Ornamentals within one (1) year and complete within eighteen (18) months of hire.

Technician III (Advanced-Level)

Two (2) years of experience as a KCRMD Parks Technician II or four (4) years of equivalent irrigation/parks maintenance experience including two (2) years of snow removal.

Advanced knowledge in at least three of the following areas: irrigation mowing turf athletics horticulture or general maintenance.

Must obtain the following certifications within one (1) year of hire:

o Flagger Certification

o CPR/First Aid/AED Certification

o Colorado Cross Connection Technician Certification

Must initiate Colorado Department of Agriculture Qualified Supervisor Pesticide Applicators License in Turf and Ornamentals within one (1) year and complete within eighteen (18) months of hire.


Schedule

Monday Thursday: 7:00 AM 4:30 PM

Friday: 7:00 AM 11:00 AM

Winter: Snow removal schedules may require nights weekends and holidays


Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Ability to work a 40-hour week including evenings early mornings and weekends as required.

Ability to read write and communicate effectively in English.

Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and priorities.

Ability to interpret irrigation blueprints.

Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word Excel and irrigation software.


Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Work performed in the field including District parks maintenance facilities and outdoor recreation areas.

Frequent exposure to varied weather conditions and hazardous conditions such as uneven terrain or moving mechanical equipment.

Frequent physical activity including standing walking kneeling bending lifting pushing pulling and repetitive motions.

Ability to lift move and carry objects exceeding 50 pounds regularly.

May be required to work evenings weekends and holidays particularly during snow removal operations.


Special Requirements

Must maintain insurability through the Districts carrier by upholding an acceptable driving record.

Must obtain and maintain all certifications as outlined by Technician level.


Work and Physical Requirements: Field

This position requires work in a variety of locations and conditions including but not limited to the Parks Department Maintenance Facility other Recreational facilities and outside areas within the Districts park system.


Working Environment

1. Moderate physical activity will be required frequently.

2. Work will be required outdoors in all weather conditions.

3. Work may be required under hazardous and adverse conditions including but not limited to slippery and uneven surfaces and proximity to moving mechanical equipment.

4. Use of sensory activities such as talking seeing hearing smelling feeling (identifying objects by touch) depth perception and color vision will be required frequently.


Physical Requirements

1. Have ability to lift move and carry objects in excess of fifty (50) pounds frequently.

2. Have ability to stand walk sit kneel stoop bend lift squat push pull crawl jump slide climb pinch grip reach overhead reach away from body and perform repetitive motions.

3. Be able to work evenings holidays and weekends as needed.
