Join Our Team as a Process Engineer (Facilities) Intern!

The Process Engineering Intern will support Project and Senior Engineers with engineering projects on process systems and will support day-to-day production operations as assigned by the Asst. Manager Process Engineering. Processes supported may include cleaning-phosphating-powder paint systems electroplating liquid painting vacuum systems vacuum brazing waste treatment material handling and related automation. Activities are typically related to engineering/design/construction/operation of new processes or improvements to manufacturing operations at S&C Electrics Chicago Headquarters. Engineering tasks supported will include preparation of design criteria feasibility assessments commissioning and pilot trials functional descriptions and sequences of operation calculations equipment selection analyses drawings sketches/layouts and specifications both for process equipment and purchased components. Responsibilities will include authoring of process quality specifications defining of process limits analyses of failures process improvement opportunities and production acceptance/qualification of materials. Exercising of sound judgment and decision making for assigned responsibilities is expected.

Specific activities will include the following:

  • Development of technical expertise in coating systems paint application corrosion protection electroplating chemical processes precision/critical cleaning vacuum brazing and vacuum systems.
  • Daily production support when necessary.
  • Participation in root cause problem solving efforts both in support of defect correction and process/product continuous improvement
  • Ability to take ownership and work independently within a collaborative setting work with customers to resolve technical issues identify root cause continually improve under the umbrella of safety quality delivery cost.
  • Process controls automation material handling system assignments.
  • Performing field survey work necessary to validate layouts/plans prior to during and after construction and/or rearrangement transcribe existing building plans into CAD based drawings.

To select this job as one of interest to you at a minimum you must have the following:

  • Pursuing a B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical Chemical Materials Science Industrial preferred but other disciplines considered)
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Proficiency in the use of PC using Word Excel Project Access
  • Some CAD skills preferred
  • Basic bookkeeping skills and ability to read drawings

MAJOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Standing: Occasional standing for job site meetings in-plant survey work and project reviews

Lifting: Occasional lifting of rolls of plans project files survey/measuring equipment less than 50 pounds

Walking: Frequent walking throughout the facility both indoors and outdoors

Carrying: Occasional carrying of light objects such as plans rulers measuring equipment

Pushing: Infrequent pushing of objects if at all. Maybe related to rearrangement work

Pulling: Infrequent pulling of objects if at all. Maybe related to rearrangement work

Bending: Occasional bending during field survey work or access to work areas

Reaching: Infrequent reaching if any

Handling: Infrequent Handling of parts or tools if at all

Other: Frequent use of personal computer keyboard monitor and CAD workstation
