Work Schedule: Monday Friday 7:35 AM 4:00 PM.

Reports to: The School Principal or Designees.
Mission of NCS
Our mission is to provide NCS children with new educational opportunities through a rigorous and comprehensive K-8 program that cultivates the intellectual social and emotional development of each child. Our students who will include autistic scholars and students with IEPs will become independent learners and critical thinkers acquire the academic skills that they need to succeed in college preparatory high schools and exhibit the social and emotional skills that will allow them to reach their full potential.
The Opportunity
Neighborhood Charter Schools (NCS) is seeking a mission-driven Elementary Special Education Teacher to cover maternity leave at our Bronx campus. You will join a collaborative team of educators who share a deep belief in the potential of every child and a commitment to inclusion academic rigor and joyful learning.
The maternity leave teacher will maintain classroom routines deliver engaging instruction and ensure continuity of services so scholars continue making progress while their lead teacher is away.
Key Responsibilities
- Instruction: Deliver standards-aligned lessons that are accessible engaging and culturally responsive for all learners.
- Special Education Services: Implement IEP goals accommodations and modifications with fidelity; collaborate with related service providers to ensure student success.
- Classroom Culture: Maintain a positive structured and inclusive learning environment rooted in mutual respect and high expectations.
- Data & Assessment: Monitor and document student progress through formative assessments work samples and data tools.
- Collaboration: Partner closely with general education teachers teaching assistants and families to align supports and maintain open communication.
- Professional Growth: Reflect on practice engage with feedback and model professionalism aligned with NCSs values.
- Continuity of Learning: Sustain classroom systems routines and academic momentum during the leave period and ensure a smooth transition back to the returning teacher.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree
- Demonstrated success supporting students with disabilities including autistic students and diverse learning profiles
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Commitment to equity inclusion and the NCS mission
Preferred
- Valid NYS Special Education Certification (Grades 16 or relevant area) or eligibility in progress
- Masters degree in Special Education or related field
- Experience writing or implementing IEPs
- Experience with co-teaching or integrated settings (ICT)
- Bilingual (Spanish/English)
