The Operating Room Surgical Technologist is responsible for assisting in the delivery of patient care under the supervision of the professional nurse and within established standards of practice. This role functions under the direction of the Nursing Supervisor and circulating nurse performing duties as a scrub or assistant to ensure safe efficient surgical procedures.
EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or successful completion of a U.S. military surgical technology training program (Army Navy or Air Force).
Minimum of 2 years of recent operating room experience required.
3 years preferred.
Experience in Cesarean Sections Orthopedic General and Vascular surgeries preferred.
Active BLS (American Heart Association) required.
Surgical Technologist certification required and must be maintained.
Strong understanding of surgical instrumentation equipment use and aseptic technique.
Ability to demonstrate dexterity attention to detail and efficiency in surgical procedures.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills maintaining professionalism and sensitivity toward patients families and coworkers.
Ability to lift move and position patients and equipment safely.
Knowledge of sterilization techniques and infection control standards.
Ability to function calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Apply knowledge of surgical procedures anatomy and aseptic technique to maintain a sterile environment.
Prepare maintain and monitor surgical instruments equipment and supplies.
Perform surgical scrubbing gowning and gloving according to policy.
Assist with patient preparation draping and positioning.
Anticipate the surgeons needs during procedures to ensure efficiency.
Participate in surgical counts (sponges instruments sharps) to ensure patient safety.
Clean sterilize and maintain instruments and equipment.
Adhere to infection control and safety policies at all times.
Support a respectful patient-centered environment and uphold ethical standards of practice.
Participate in educational activities to maintain and advance clinical competency.
Perform assigned duties under anesthesia direction as required.
Complete preoperative setup morning checks and post-procedure tasks as assigned.
Hospital Operating Room setting.
Requires physical stamina and ability to work in a fast-paced high-acuity environment.
Exposure to sterile field conditions and frequent use of protective equipment.
Overtime: Begins after 40 hours/week; paid at rate $14/hour
Holiday Pay: Rate $14/hour
Call Back: $8/hour pager rate; 2-hour minimum for callback
