Job Summary:
The School Nutrition Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the school nutrition program at the assigned site. This position ensures compliance with USDA regulations district policies and food safety standards while providing leadership to staff managing operations and fostering a welcoming dining environment. The manager plays a critical role in planning organizing and directing the daily operations of the cafeteria to ensure the delivery of high-quality nutritious meals to students and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Management:
- Plan and oversee daily food service operations ensuring compliance with USDA regulations and district policies.
- Develop and implement production schedules to ensure timely preparation and service of meals.
- Monitor food preparation portion control and service to maintain quality efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Ensure adherence to food safety and sanitation standards at all times.
Leadership and Staff Development:
- Provide leadership and direction to cafeteria staff fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate goals updates and expectations.
- Train supervise and evaluate staff performance providing constructive feedback and support for professional growth.
- Address personnel issues and resolve conflicts in a professional and timely manner.
Administrative Duties:
- Manage inventory including ordering receiving and storage of food and supplies to minimize waste and shortages.
- Maintain accurate records of meal counts production records and inventory reports.
- Prepare and submit required reports to district administration and regulatory agencies.
- Develop and manage the cafeteria budget ensuring financial accountability and cost control.
Menu Planning and Nutrition:
- Collaborate with district nutrition staff to plan menus that meet USDA guidelines and appeal to students.
- Implement strategies to increase student participation in the school nutrition program.
- Ensure special dietary needs are accommodated in compliance with regulations and district policies.
Customer Service:
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive dining environment for students staff and visitors.
- Address customer inquiries concerns and feedback in a professional and courteous manner.
- Promote the school nutrition program through positive interactions and communication with stakeholders.
Professional Development:
- Stay current on USDA regulations food safety standards and industry best practices through ongoing professional development.
- Participate in district and state training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required additional education in food service management or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in school nutrition or food service with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
- Strong leadership communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications including inventory management and reporting software.
- Knowledge of USDA regulations food safety standards and sanitation practices.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen environment with exposure to heat and cold.
