Job Summary

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and passionate leader to join St Leonards College from the commencement of the 2026 school year. Reporting to the Head of Junior School the Deputy Head of Junior School Pastoral will join our Junior School Leadership team and lead the wellbeing and pastoral care initiatives for students from the Early Learning Centre (ELC) through to Year 4.

Working collaboratively with the Junior School Leadership Team and Junior School staff the role will be responsible for:

  • Leading the implementation of a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) framework.
  • Developing proactive wellbeing programs and restorative practices.
  • Managing student welfare concerns and behaviour incidents.
  • Building strong relationships with students families and staff.

The role will also oversee daily operations including staff timetables duty rosters and relief staffing.

This pivotal leadership position offers a unique opportunity to shape the development of our ELC and Junior School students while contributing to the daily operations of a vibrant and inclusive College community.

This is a full time permanent teaching position with the Deputy Head of Junior School - Pastoral role offered with a 3-year tenure as a position of responsibility. The Deputy Head of Junior School - Pastoral role includes a time allocation and a monetary allowance with an approximate teaching allocation of 0.20 FTE.

To be successful in this opportunity you will require:

  • Relevant teaching qualifications and registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT)
  • Extensive experience in student wellbeing and pastoral care within a primary school setting ideally from ELC to Year 4.
  • Strong knowledge of child development with a deep understanding of the social emotional and academic needs of young learners.
  • Demonstrated leadership in implementing Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) frameworks and other proactive behaviour management strategies.
  • Experience with restorative practices and inclusive approaches to student wellbeing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with students staff and families.
  • Organisational and operational leadership skills including experience with timetabling staff coordination and daily school logistics.
  • Capacity to lead and inspire staff fostering a positive and supportive school culture.
