The Lead Test Engineer is responsible for operating and supporting dynamometer test cellsfor propulsion and driveline systems from initial setup to test report includes working with dynamometer control software tointegratecustomer test requestsperforming testequipment calibrations executing troubleshooting efforts on test cell equipment and assisting the test engineers to meet deadlines. The main objective is to oversee and guide the engineering team to ensure the successful delivery of projects. This role requires the ability to successfully manage tasks and assignments in multiple areas. Initiative and ownership of responsibilities are critical to the success of this individual.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Integratingcustomer test requests intoourin-house developeddynamometer control includes configuring channel setups and writing automated test scripts among many other items
- Translatingdocuments and conversationsfromcustomersto a fullyfunctionaldynamometer test
- Guide test engineers toward best practices for executing robust test setups
- Troubleshootingoftesting systemsandcustomerproduct issues
- Collaboratingwith interdisciplinary teams tocreate concepts and deliverablesusedto efficiently complete customer test requests and internalprojects
- Setting up testing equipment including analog sensorselectrical instruments cooling systems power analyzers delta analyzers CAN bus gateways EtherCAT chain manipulationand other customer driven requirements
- Electrical wiringofinternal and external sensors to ourdata acquisition systemand our industrial drive systems
- Troubleshoot isolate and improve signal noise as it pertains to testing setups and data output quality
- Calibratingtesting equipment such as torque meters pressure sensors andflow meters
- Support the commissioning process of new tests to help the team meet both internal and external deadlines
- Provide directions for the test engineering team as needed to help meet deadlines
- Assists in supporting the UTAC culture and values (Integrity Expertise and Innovation)
- Performs other duties as assigned
Additional Information :
Education and Skill Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in engineering (preferably mechanical or electrical) or related experience
- Minimum 3 years experience in a related field
- Minimum 3 years experience leading teams is preferred
- Practical dynamometer testing experience and involvement with projects
- Working understanding of LabVIEW and how to use it with existing projects preferred
- Strong working knowledge of automotive propulsion and driveline systems
- Strong working knowledge of industrial drive systems and electrical power flow
- Fluency in the English language is required
- Strong problem solving strategic thinking and analytical skills required
- Ability to work in a team working cooperatively toward team and individual goals
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively with all stakeholders
- Strong time management multi-tasking and organizational skills
- Strong attention to detail required
- Consistently exhibit appropriate attendance habits working the hours necessary to perform the job
- Ability to lead by example utilizing UTAC testing group processes and procedures
- Ability to practically teach test engineers more difficult concepts as they pertain to propulsion and driveline systems
- Accept instructions and tasks in a positive manner treating all co-workers with dignity and respect
- Proficient with all Microsoft Office applications and the ability to become proficient in any systems that we use (Concur Kronos etc.)
- A valid drivers license required for travel to customer sites picking up parts etc.
- Consistently adhere to and support all UTAC policies procedures and safety regulations.
- Exceptional work ethic and positive attitude required
- Organize and maintain efficiency of personal work area
- Self-starter who can multi-task and possess strong communication skills
- This position is not eligible to participate in the remote work policy
Physical Requirements:
- Exposure to industry accepted chemicals and noise
- Regularly required to stand reach bend and move about the facility
- Requirements include but are not limited to stand walk sit twist bend lift see speak hear
- Flexibility to support test activity at off-site locations and outside of traditional working hours
- Able to travel within the US
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted and 75 lbs. assisted
- Able to stand for up to 8 hours
