Application Database Engineer PostgreSQL and AlloyDB

Position Description:

CGI Federal is a leading technology company dedicated to delivering innovative solutions and services. We are seeking a skilled Application Database Engineer with expertise in PostgreSQL and AlloyDB on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to join our dynamic team.

As an Application Database Engineer specializing in PostgreSQL and AlloyDB on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) you will be responsible for managing and optimizing our database systems to ensure high performance reliability and scalability. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to implement best practices in database management and support our applications and services.

This position is located in Fairfax VA.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

Backups:
oManage instance backups for PostgreSQL and AlloyDB including scheduling and on-demand backups.
oPerform database and table exports.
oImplement retention and archival strategies.
oAutomate backup processes to ensure data integrity and availability.
Restore & Recovery:
oExecute instance and database imports for PostgreSQL and AlloyDB.
oPerform table recovery in cases of data corruption or missing data both partial and full.
oDevelop and implement automation for restore and recovery processes.
Administration:
oMonitor database performance and set up alerting systems for PostgreSQL and AlloyDB.
oManage users and service accounts.
oConduct performance tuning and scaling up of database resources.
oOversee connection management vacuuming and indexing.
oDevelop scripts to automate administrative tasks.

oDiagnose and resolve issues related to sessions SQL performance and connections in PostgreSQL and AlloyDB.
oCreate and maintain scripts to facilitate troubleshooting processes.
Release and Rollback Processes:
oDevelop and manage processes for data release and rollback to ensure smooth deployment and recovery.
Repository:
oMaintain a comprehensive script repository for all database management and troubleshooting tasks.

.Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology or a related field.
.Proven experience as a Database Engineer or similar role with a focus on PostgreSQL and AlloyDB on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
.Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and AlloyDB including database management and SQL.
.Experience with GCP services such as Cloud SQL and AlloyDB.
.Familiarity with database design performance tuning and optimization techniques.
.Understanding of data security and compliance requirements.
.Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
.Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Desired qualifications/non-essential skills required:
.GCP certification(s) related to database management or cloud engineering.
.Experience with automation and scripting languages (e.g. Python Bash).
.Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools (e.g. Kubernetes Docker).

The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set level experience relevant training and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit-based performance CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $88200.00 - $214800.00.
