Pūmotomoto is a kaupapa Māori mental health and wellbeing supporting whānau in Ōtautahi with the first 2000 days from conception to age 5.

Launched in 2019 Te Oriori is provided through Purapura Whetu Trust a kaupapa Māori non- government organisation that provides a range of free health and social support services for all ages across Waitaha.

Our tamariki are taonga born to thrive and have opportunities to develop gifts handed down from our tīpuna. Through our service we model compassion connectedness and nurturing with kai and unconditional aroha to whānau wrapping them in korowai as they heal and become stronger.

Pūmotomoto is the flute that is played over the fontanelle of an infant and chanted through to impart tribal wisdom knowledge.

Role Overview:

You will be supporting the Pūmotomoto service.

The role as registered nurse will be working with paediatric focus with pēpi and tamariki whānau to make positive change in their lives.

Your role will lead our Immunising Tamariki service including:

  • Raising immunisation rates for tamariki Māori to contribute to the key government health target of Improved Immunisation and 95% of children fully immunised at 24 months.
  • Raising awareness of the benefits of immunisation with whānau and communities with the aim of creating a multi-generational commitment to immunisation within whānau.
  • Supporting the achievement of equitable immunisation rates for tamariki and whānau by offering flexible arrangements for vaccination services in the home and community settings.

NURSE: 1 FTE

To be part of our new service Pūmotomoto supporting whānau and pēpi in the First 2000 days

  • Registered Nurse with 5 years experience working in New Zealand (preferred)
  • Holds a current practising certificate in New Zealand Experience in Immunisation practice
  • Strong community networks and reputation
  • Public Health education knowledge and skills
  • Experience and passion working with whānau and paediatrics
  • Antenatal experience desirable
  • Well Child Tamariki Ora/Plunket experience desirable

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Current Full NZ drivers license
  • Pass a Police check
  • Recent experience working in Health social services or education
  • Knowledge of and experience working with the Māori community
  • Knowledge of Te Reo Tikanga and Kawa
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Knowledge of and experience working with Microsoft products
  • Knowledge of a Māori world view and the confidence to embed this world view
  • Knowledge of client/worker safety
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills
  • Effective time management/organisational skills

Training and Professional Development:

  • Training and professional development is supported
  • Funding for this will be assessed on application and is on a case-by-case basis
