This position is open for recruitment and fully funded following the 2025 Special Legislative Session.

Join our team as an assistant resident engineer! In this role you will assist the resident engineer in administering highway construction projects. You will coordinate the activities of employees performing preliminary engineering tasks location surveys project design contract compliance and more! A day in the life:
Oversee multiple construction contracts through design pre-bid and pre-construction and participate in construction meetings.
Submit and coordinate project documentation using several digital document management systems.
Participate in teams providing construction engineering and constructability expertise during project development.
Review complex engineering designs and digital design models and recommend alterations.
Direct coordinate and complete plan specification and construction estimate reviews.
Analyze develop and complete construction schedules during project development.
Lead and mentor construction crew personnel doing inspections surveys design and quality and quantity compliance.
Review and solve complex project issues that arise during construction.
Initiate negotiate and review proposed contract changes such as time extensions claims change orders and additional work orders.
Work in a standard office environment and perform roughly half of your work in the field in all weather conditions close to highway traffic and construction equipment. Lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds stop bend and climb ladders.

Comprehensive and equitable base salary offer within the listed range. Through an equal pay assessment we will determine the salary offer using the information you provide in your submitted application materials. The salary range listed is the non-PERS monthly salary range. If you are already a participating PERS member or once you become PERS eligible the salary range will increase by 6%.

Minimum qualifications:
Possession of a Civil Engineering (CE) license in the State of Oregon OR the ability to obtain license within six months of hire.
Note: If registered in another state successful applicants will be required to obtain a temporary permit to practice engineering pursuant to ORS 672.109 within six months from date of hire.
Special qualifications:
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
