Job Summary
Underwriting Manager
In-person in Orem UT
Nexio is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Underwriting Manager to join our team! This individual will play a critical role in the merchant onboarding process by leading the underwriting function ensuring thorough evaluation of merchant applications and managing risk across our merchant portfolio.
The Underwriting Manager will oversee a team of underwriters handle escalations and collaborate closely with Sales Risk and our bank sponsors to ensure merchant applications are accurately reviewed compliant and aligned with Nexios risk policies.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the underwriting team providing coaching mentorship and performance oversight.
- Collect and analyze information to assess the risk profile of potential merchants.
- Review and evaluate merchant account applications to ensure accuracy completeness and compliance with regulatory and sponsor requirements.
- Verify merchant identities through security checks and direct communication with applicants.
- Interpret and assess business financial statements to determine creditworthiness.
- Handle escalated cases and partner with the Sales team to resolve challenges during the onboarding process.
- Prepare and present reports detailing underwriting findings trends and risk assessments.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support efficient onboarding and mitigate potential risks.
Qualifications
- 2 Years of experience in managing a team.
- 3 Years of underwriting experience
- Bachelors degree in Business Finance Accounting or a related field.
- Proven experience in underwriting or risk management; leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound data-driven decisions.
- High proficiency in computer systems and comfort working with third-party tools in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Skilled at reviewing and interpreting business financial statements.
- Payments industry experience a plus including familiarity with TSYS or First Data (Fiserv).
