About this Job

The Board of Regents is established in the Louisiana Constitution as the states coordinating board for higher education working with four management boards 32 public degree-granting institutions and four special-purpose institutions. The BoR sets statewide policy related to higher education; advocates for higher education systems and institutions; distributes state-provided funding in accordance with legislative actions; and administers granting programs related to the advancement of the missions of postsecondary education systems and institutions. The Board of Regents contains three programs which include the Board of Regents the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA) and the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON).

Position Overview:

The Communications Student Intern a 20-hour-per-week position at the Board of Regents reports to the Associate Commissioner for Public Affairs. This position works closely with the Communications team to build a strategic communications plan to promote and support Louisianas Master Plan efforts and the work of Regents.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Enrolled as a full-time student at the sophomore or junior-level majoring in Mass Communications Journalism Public Relations or Political Communications at a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience in graphic design photography digital media (Video & Audio).
  • Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively with a wide range of individuals and can handle sensitive issues while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Work with administrators and staff in a productive positive and professional manner.
  • Exercise discretion in prioritizing tasks sharing information and using independent judgment.
  • Has a high level of computer competency and self-sufficiency.
  • Can work under stringent deadlines and adapt to changing priorities and needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential and other important duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Generates gathers edits and manages content to be used on Board of Regents website and other publications.
  • Repurposes and realigns existing website content to generate content for secondary uses such as internal communications website postings and social media marketing.
  • Researches and provides insight into best practices for social media.
  • Proofs edits and updates existing information and content on Board of Regents website using content management system.
  • Contributes to the collaboration process and execution of all marketing projects and campaigns whether delivered through social media the website other online deliveries or in print.
  • Graphic Design Photography and Digital Media (Audio & Video).
  • Assist with planning and execution of events as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

VACANCY INFORMATION:

This is an unclassified position.

This position is located in Baton Rouge LA.

Students are required to submit verification from their universities each semester substantiating their status as a person enrolled in an accredited high school college or university in a sufficient number of courses and classes in such institution to be classified as a full-time regular student under the criteria used by the institution in which the person is enrolled.
