Overview
A growing HVAC manufacturer is seeking a Sustaining Engineer to support existing product lines and ensure long-term performance quality and manufacturability. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands-on problem-solving collaborating with cross-functional teams and driving continuous improvement within a dynamic production environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day engineering support for production and operations.
Manage Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) Bill of Materials (BOM) updates and supplier qualification testing.
Develop and validate design modifications that improve manufacturability quality or cost-effectiveness.
Lead or participate in cost-reduction and process improvement projects.
Coordinate with supply chain and suppliers to qualify alternate materials and components.
Use structured problem-solving methods (FMEA Root Cause Analysis 8D) to resolve technical issues.
Maintain and update engineering documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards.
Mentor junior engineers or interns on project execution and best practices.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Experience: 25 years of experience in sustaining engineering manufacturing engineering or HVAC product design.
Technical Skills:
Strong understanding of HVAC systems thermodynamics heat transfer and fluid mechanics.
Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks Creo or similar) and PLM systems (Teamcenter Windchill etc.).
Familiarity with ECN/BOM management and supplier qualification processes.
Working knowledge of HVAC standards such as ASHRAE UL AHRI and DOE.
Preferred: Lean or Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
Work Environment
Office-based role with regular collaboration across engineering manufacturing and supply chain teams.
Occasional time on the shop floor for troubleshooting or process observation.
Occasional travel for supplier visits or qualification testing.
Soft Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects independently in a fast-paced environment.
