THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK IS SEEKING A PASSIONATE AND MOTIVATED INDIVIDUAL TO JOIN OURRECREATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT.THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL COORDINATE AND IMPLEMENT A VARIETY OF SPECIALIZED RECREATION AND SOCIAL SERVICE PROGRAMS WITHIN THE TEEN CENTER & SKATE PARK WHILE ALSO ASSISTING WITH CITYWIDE SPECIAL EVENTS THAT FOSTER COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND ENRICHMENT.

The examination process will consist of a competitive evaluation of qualifications based on a review of the application and supplemental questionnaire; therefore it is to your advantage to provide as much detailed and relevant work experience. THE POSITION
Under general supervision coordinates and implements one or more specialized recreation and social service activities; participates in the supervision of part-time and contract employees; and performs related work as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Supervision is providedby the Program Supervisoror higher-level department staff.

Responsibilities include direct supervision evaluation of and training of part-time and contract employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinate promote implement and evaluate recreation and social program activities as assigned.
  • Supervise evaluate and train part-time and contract employees.
  • Prepare or coordinate the development of events publicity including news releases flyers pamphlets and brochures.
  • Maintain close contact with school officials agencies and non-profit organizations having related responsibilities for program implementation.
  • Schedule working hours for part-time staff.
  • Prepare and submit payroll reports for assigned personnel.
  • Participate in the development of the annual budget for a recreation or social service activity or group of activities.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
  • Maintain records and develop reports concerning new or on-going programs and program effectiveness.
  • Recommend the purchase of necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Supports the relationship between the City of Baldwin Park and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Procedures for implementing a variety of recreational and social services program activities and programs through community participation.
  • Program content for specialized community recreation and social service activities.
  • Principles and techniques used in supervision training and performance evaluation.
  • Common recreational cultural and social needs of the Baldwin Park community.


ABILITY TO:

  • Coordinate organize and implement recreation and leisure time activities and specialized events.
  • Prepare and distribute publicity concerning new or on-going recreation and offerings.
  • Select train supervise and evaluate part-time and contract employees.
  • Understand community needs in a variety of recreation areas and to evaluate activities according to those needs.
  • Identify methods to maximize service effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with public groups agencies school officials the media and others contracted in the course of work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent; and

  • Two (2) years of experience in the implementation of recreation activities or social programs related to youth activities or senior citizen and geriatric activities.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATIONS

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid applicable California Drivers License.
