Description

The City of Oxnards Police Department is seeking a Part-Time Crossing Guardwith strong interpersonal and customer service skills to be part of the team. The ideal candidate will be reliable and enjoy working with children.

WHAT YOULL DO:

  • Stops traffic and assists children and parents across intersections.

  • Monitors traffic during assigned hours and location.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with school-age children motorists school staff and City personnel.

  • Alert drivers to the presence of children and pedestrians.

  • Other related duties as required.

Payroll/Classification Title:Public Safety Field Assistant

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

This classification is distinguished from the Public Safety Field Technician in that it is responsible for monitoring and enforcing traffic control for pedestrian safety related to street crossing.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED / SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Receives close supervision and specific direction regarding assignments and deadlines.


WORK SCHEDULE:This position is a regular part-time position working 20 hours per addition this position may be required to be available to work additional hours in response to peaks in workloads and changes in department needs. This position is governed by the overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay.

Essential Functions

(This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the Department.)

Controls traffic to ensure safety and assists students and members of the community across City intersections; remains alert monitors traffic flow and directs traffic at appropriate times using signage and motions; determines safe conditions for pedestrian crossing.

Reports license numbers of automobiles failing to stop as signaled.

Responds to inquiries regarding street and facility location.

Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

The following are the minimum qualifications necessary for entry into the classification:

EDUCATION:

  • No formal education is required for this position

EXPERIENCE:

  • No formal experience is required for this position

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid class C California drivers license

  • Additional certifications licenses endorsements and training may be required depending on assignment

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to speak and understand English to effectively communicate with fellow employees customers and vendors

NOTE:For most positions the City of Oxnard relies on office automation (Microsoft Office/Google) and web-based enabled tools therefore candidates must be proficient and comfortable with computer use to perform functions associated with on-going work.

Regular and reliable attendance effective communication skills and development of effective working relationships are requirements of all positions.

Employees are required to participate in the Citys direct deposit plan and are paid on a bi-weekly basis.


This position requires a 12 month probationary period.
