East Side House Settlement (ESH) is a community resource in the South Bronx. We believe education is the key that enables all people to create economic and civic opportunities for themselves their families and the communities.

East Side Houses Early Childhood programs provide Early Head Start and Head Start services in a safe supportive educational environment for children ages 18 months to 5 years of age. Serving 231 children daily from five locations the comprehensive program is designed to develop the cognitive social emotional and physical skills of children in a safe supportive environment. Children and families receive a broad range of educational nutritional social and preventive health staff foster partnerships with families so that they can support school learning and achievement as well as advocate for their children and themselves. We expect that all staff will work collaboratively and with the community to promote school readiness while creating a safe healthy and protective environment.


Essential Functions:

Duties include but are not limited to the following key activities

  • Maintain a caseload of 10-12 participants.

  • Providing 90-minute weekly home visits to support parents/guardians in their roles as primary caregivers and to facilitate the childs individual development within their home environments.

  • In collaboration with the Director of Home-Based Services and assigned staff planning and implementing developmentally appropriate parent/child focused Group Socializations twice per month.

  • Lead learning activities designed to foster students social emotional cognitive and physical development.

  • Ensure that they have all the necessary materials to plan engaging learning activities for infants and toddlers.

  • Assisting parents in identifying strengths and goals leading to school readiness.

  • Working in collaboration with families to identify goals for themselves their families and their child and developing objectives for meeting those goals for the Family Partnership Agreement.

  • Record Keeping: Enters child and family information into the approved child tracking system database (CHILD PLUS). Assist with collecting child health medicals and dentals along with entering health related data into CHILD PLUS. Submits reports as needed and requested such as monthly summary tracking reports etc. Maintains and provides data for the annual Program Information Report (PIR). Records monitors and follows up on referrals for support services for reporting requirements and ensures that all documentation is current in childs file and in compliance with Head Start/DOHMH regulations.

  • Assisting families in accessing and utilizing community resources including arranging transportation when necessary.

  • Facilitating and supporting the participation of home-based families in program governance and program planning and assessment.

  • Record keeping and reporting to ensure compliance with Head Start regulations and high-quality programming.

  • Helping families as necessary to arrange and keep medical and dental appointments required by EHS.

  • Working collaboratively with supervisor and program specialists/consultants (health nutrition mental health disabilities and education) to ensure achievement of family goals school readiness and program compliance.

  • Active ongoing participation in program recruitment and intake efforts.

  • Maintaining flexible schedule including some evenings and/ or Saturdays.

  • Attending and participating in professional development staff meetings and reflective supervision sessions.

  • Ability to lift 35 pounds.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Minimum - High School Diploma and Home- Based CDA credential or comparable credential or equivalent coursework as part of an associate or bachelors degree (60-90 college credits in Social Work Human Development or Early Childhood Education preferred)

  • Experience working with young children and understanding of principles of adult learning.

  • Experience working with and knowledge of community resources.

  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with family staff and community members

  • Ability to foster and maintain positive professional relationships with participating families

  • Ability to use public transportation and travel independently

  • Must be able to work independently

  • Excellent computer skills including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Bilingual English/ Spanish strongly preferred

  • COVID Vaccine-As a recipient of Federal State and local funds all staff are expected to be fully vaccinated or able to obtain vaccination before their start date


Work Environment

This job operates in the families homes and in the office. Time in the office will be used to input case notes supervision etc. Travel is expected on a daily basis.


Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. This role requires the ability to carry lift and pull activity supplies to family homes.

Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time exempt position. General work schedule for this position is from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Workdays/hours subject to change based on ESHs needs. Possible work on weekends holidays or after work hours for projects special events etc. to meet program operational goals.


Travel

The Home Visitor will be expected to travel to multiple family homes in a day.
