Job Description:

Madison College is hiring a full time Financial Aid Advisor to support the Financial Aid Offices Second Chance Pell Program. The Second Chance Pell program provides students serving in a state penal institution the opportunity under certain conditions to receive federal Pell Grant funding for tuition fees and books/supplies under a U.S. Department of Education Experimental Site Initiative. This position answers questions about Madison College and its financial aid eligibility and processes; FAFSA completion; verification and student loan default addition it provides services to students regarding their account admissions status and utilizes various technologies to schedule appointments between the student and appropriate staff at Madison College as well as external service providers. The role will gather data and submit monthly and yearly reports.

This position reports to the Financial Aid manager and works in partnership with Madison Colleges Prison Education Program.

Position Details:

Schedule: This is a full-time hourly position at the Madison College Truax campus with general office hours of 8:00am to 4:30pm M-F. Currently this position works three days in office at the Truax campus and two days remote (subject to change per college policy). This position requires some travel and overnights. Mileage reimbursement is available.

Accountabilities:

  • Assists Second Chance Pell students with financial aid applications by reviewing and resolving financial data to ensure eligibility and access to funding.

  • Facilitates financial aid coordination for the Second Chance Pell program by maintaining accurate documentation sharing timely updates with institutional partners and providing reports to financial aid leadership.

  • Ensures compliance and timely distribution of financial aid by collecting reviewing and processing financial aid applications and verification documents from Second Chance Pell sites.

  • Provides comprehensive financial aid advising on campus by guiding students through eligibility requirements managing financial aid lifecycles and proactively addressing financial barriers to support student success.

  • Contributes to an inclusive equitable and supportive environment where everyone at the institution feels valued respected and empowered to reach their full potential.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with or ability to quickly learn federal state and institutional financial aid regulations related to the Second Chance Pell program.

  • Knowledge of student support services financial resources and best practices in higher education advising.

  • Skill in data interpretation and analysis.

  • Ability to manage multiple processes meet deadlines and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to provide effective customer service and resolve concerns.

  • Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.

  • Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate degree or equivalent work experience

  • 0-2 years of relevant work experience

  • Ability to travel and work in prisons across the state of Wisconsin about 50% of the time. The ability for overnight travel 2-5 nights per month. (Mileage reimbursement provided)

  • Cannot be defaulted on federal student loans. Upon hire must submit and pass an annual background check performed by Department of Corrections.
