UMA is the third-largest public university in addition to its main campus in the states capital UMA also serves students at its campus in Bangor (UMA Bangor) and through UMA Centers around the state. With its multiple locations and long-term expertise in online and distance learning UMA is generally considered the university of choice for Mainers of all ages who want to attend college without uprooting their lives.

UMA serves a mix of traditional and non-traditional students and offers a wide array of liberal arts and professional programs leading to certificates and associate and baccalaureate degrees. Programs are delivered on campus and using a network of University centers and sites across the state and internationally.

UMAs Bachelor of Architecture program is Maines only professional architecture program and the only public in northern New England. The program is built upon our thirty-five-year history of providing architectural education in Maine. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of this new chapter of architectural education in Maine. This appointment would begin in the spring 2026 semester.

The Position:The University of Maine at Augusta is seeking qualified applicants for a part-time adjunct instructor to teach in-person in Augusta in the Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) Program to teach classes such as:

We teach architecture through engagement educating and empowering students to explore investigate and analyze the built environment. Engagement brings students into active contact with each other their coursework and our community partners.

The University of Maine at Augustas Architecture program is rooted in three essential elements. The first is the mission to engage community; this is where our work takes place. The second is the desire to work in collaboration within the department the university and with community partners; this is what allows us to affect positive change. And third is seen in our curriculum based on the idea of being grounded in real; these are the tools we use to affect our collective build environment. For additional information about UMAs please visit our website at is per credit hour and commensurate with qualifications and previous experience in accordance with the PATFA contract.

Required Qualifications:

  • A masters degree OR a professionally accredited degree appropriate licensure and professional experience in related fields.
  • For ARC 241: a capacity and interest to teachresearch and analysis. This course is part precedent study as well as library research. The course is a lead-in to architectural theory and thesis courses.
  • For ARC 332 a capacity and interest to teachconstruction techniques including new technologies such as Mass Timber.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience in higher education which may include being a Graduate Assistant in an NAAB-accredited Master of Architecture program.
