Trade and Industrial Education Teacher: Firefighter

FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to teach high school students NC Firefighter certification modules required for all professional firefighters.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrate and instruct students in firefighter certification modules in preparation for the certification testing. Aligned credential certifications are NC Office of the State Fire Marshall (NCOSFM) Firefighter Technology I Firefighter Technology II and Firefighter Technology III.
- Develop and implement instructional plans and activities for all modules in Firefighter I II and III courses.
- Create and plan effective curriculum-based projects and activities correlated with instruction in the performance of necessary skills for firefighter credential attainment.
- Develop relationships with area fire service agencies in support of the fire academy program.
- Perform routine maintenance of equipment and tools used in the program.
- Manage inventory control including purchasing materials supplies equipment and tools.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Professional experience in the fire service.
- Up-to-date knowledge and technical skills required to effectively instruct students in the firefighter modules.
- Knowledge of current industry standards for the fire fighter professional field of study.
- Knowledge of and skill in the use of database Internet spreadsheet word processing and related applications.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum: Must meet one of the following education and work experience combinations:
- HS Diploma with six (6) years related work experience within the past ten (10) years.
- Associate degree in related field (Fire Firefighter Professional Firefighter Volunteer) with four (4) years related work experience within the past eight (8) years.
- Bachelor degree in related field (Fire Firefighter Professional Firefighter Volunteer) with two (2) years related work experience within the past five (5) years.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
- NC Office of the State Fire Marshall Qualified Fire Fighter II Instructor (passing Q School) prior to teaching
- NC Office of the State Fire Marshall Qualified HAZMAT Instructor
