Job Summary:


The Assistant Director plays an important leadership role in the Office of Student Assistance and Support (OSAS) and serves as the vice-chair of the campus-wide Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT). This position involves working one-on-one with students in crisis as well as supervising two care coordinators. To provide comprehensive support and ensure the success of students the Assistant Director collaborates with faculty staff parents and community members. Additionally this staff member will participate in an on-call rotation for drop-in services and in the dean on-call program.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the vice-chair for the Behavioral Intervention Team

  • Serve as Dean on Call for scheduled evenings and weekends. Respond to campus crisis when needed

  • Develops plans and directs staff implementation and operational work plans of one or multiple student affairs programs activities experiences and/or services
  • Evaluates and promotes short and long term existing strategies and makes recommendations for program enhancement
  • Contributes to the design of student-focused programs and associated resources and materials to promote new and ongoing educational initiatives
  • Answers questions and provides information regarding student affairs resources to individual students and groups
  • Exercises supervisory authority including hiring transferring suspending promoting managing conduct and performance discharging assigning rewarding disciplining and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • Identifies develops and facilitates unit staff training opportunities
  • May monitor the program budget and approve expenditures

The Office of Student Assistance and Support (OSAS) creates a culture of care on campus by connecting students to support for student success. The office assists with academic financial health family emergencies and other difficulties. The office supports ALL students including graduate and professional students. The office also consults with faculty staff parents and community members to help support overall student success.

OSAS is part of Student Affairs at the University of WisconsinMadison led by the vice chancellor for student affairs. Our staff is dedicated to serving students and to helping them succeed in and out of the classroom in areas including health and well-being student success and belonging leadership and engagement and student advocacy. Student Affairs includes departments led by the dean of students; departments that provide identity-based spaces and leadership resources; the Wisconsin Union; University Health Services; and University Recreation and Wellbeing.

Compensation:

The expected minimum starting salary for this position is $79193.00 annually. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications. This position offers a comprehensive benefits package including generous paid time off competitively priced health/dental/vision/life insurance tax-advantaged savings accounts and participation in the nationally recognized Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) pension fund.
