Hybrid Controls Engineer

Job Title: Hybrid Controls Engineer
Location: Auburn Hills MI 48326 (On-site)
Duration: 6 Months

As a Hybrid Controls Engineer you will be responsible for developing and implementing control strategies for hybrid and electric vehicle systems. You will work on thermal management torque control and powertrain optimization functions ensuring high performance and reliability. This position requires strong analytical skills model-based design experience and hands-on embedded software knowledge.

• Design develop and validate control systems for Hybrid Powertrain and Thermal Management applications.

• Utilize MATLAB Simulink and Stateflow to create simulate and test control algorithms.

• Develop embedded control logic for torque management torque security and power distribution.

• Perform code generation using Real-Time Workshop (RTW) and ensure quality of the generated code.

• Conduct M-scripting and debugging activities to optimize control performance.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage customer software requirements and feature integration.

• Analyze system-level data to identify and resolve software or control anomalies using advanced debugging tools.

• Support development of hybrid operating strategies electrified powertrain control and optimization methodologies.

• Coordinate with stakeholders for data gathering issue resolution and feature delivery.

• Actively contribute to team discussions for continuous process improvement and testing methodology enhancement.

• Strong experience in Model-Based Development (MBD) using MATLAB Simulink and Stateflow.

• Expertise in Control System Design and Development for Powertrain applications.

• Proven knowledge of Thermal Management Torque Controls and Torque Security concepts.

• Proficiency in Embedded Software Development and Code Generation (RTW).

• Strong debugging and analytical skills using M-scripting.

• Working knowledge of microcontrollers (preferably Freescale).

• Familiarity with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

• Fundamental understanding of Hybrid and Electric Automotive Architectures.

• Hands-on experience in Model-Based Development for hybrid control units involving heat transfer and fluid dynamics.

• Experience with GT-Suite powertrain modeling and thermal system simulations.

• Exposure to hybrid operating strategy development and control optimization.

• Experience managing software requirements and providing structured feedback to leadership.

• Strong coordination and communication skills with cross-functional engineering teams.
