Our client is a well-established company that specializes in leasing and maintaining construction plant and machinery (CPM) to support contractors engaged in road dam and general civil works projects across Kenya. The company operates a diverse fleet that includes articulated dump trucks excavators graders rollers and other heavy-duty equipment that facilitate a range of construction activities such as excavation earthworks material haulage soil stabilization and asphalt paving.
ROLE PURPOSE
The Senior Heavy Plant Mechanic will lead and execute the maintenance repair and overhaul of heavy construction machinery across multiple project sites. The role is critical in maintaining fleet reliability optimizing equipment uptime and mentoring junior mechanics. The ideal candidate will possess advanced technical expertise in diagnosing mechanical electrical and hydraulic systems a disciplined approach to preventive maintenance and the ability to provide technical leadership in both workshop and field settings.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan coordinate and perform preventive and corrective maintenance on heavy construction equipment including ADTs excavators graders rollers bulldozers and related machinery.
Conduct advanced diagnostics and fault-finding on mechanical electrical and hydraulic systems using appropriate tools and software.
Oversee workshop operations assign tasks and guide junior mechanics and technicians in carrying out maintenance and repair work.
Review and maintain accurate service logs parts usage records and maintenance reports for fleet monitoring.
Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company safety policies and statutory regulations.
Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager to plan equipment service schedules prioritize repairs and manage spare parts inventory.
Provide on-site technical support during active construction operations to minimize equipment downtime.
Train coach and mentor junior mechanics promoting skill transfer and adherence to best maintenance practices.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Must be an NYS-trained Plant Mechanic.
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Automotive Engineering or a related technical field.
4 to 7 years of hands-on experience in maintaining and repairing heavy construction equipment.
Demonstrated proficiency in diagnosing complex faults in hydraulic electrical and mechanical systems.
Experience supervising workshop teams and coordinating maintenance activities across multiple sites.
Strong familiarity with maintenance management systems and preventive maintenance programs.
Experience working with an equipment leasing mining or large-scale construction company is highly desirable.
Possession of a valid drivers license.
