Summary
The Caregivers role is providing routine daily medications either prescription or non-prescription to residents whose condition and drug regimen are stable. The aide has a list of patients and medications each day and must administer medications in the indicated dosage at the correct time. If the aide observes a change in the patients vital signs or behavior or any other indication of adverse effects from a medication it must be reported to the Director of Nursing.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Know and practice Residents rights.
Monitor vital signs calculate medication dosages and stock the medication cart.
Storing the medicines in a safe environment.
Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the residents room.
Dispense oral inhalation and topical medications to residents.
Observe residents for drug reactions and report any problems to the DON.
Record what medications were given for the day and the dosage in the nurses medication administration record (MAR) chart.
Qualifications
Must be a high school graduate or at least 18 years of age.
Complete course for certified level 1 med aide (CMA) if required. CMA must be certified in the state where they are employed.
Possess good communication skills in order to communicate effectively with residents families and co-workers.
Maintain knowledge of basic care for residents.
Ability to maintain HIPPA compliance.
Must be accurate in observation performance and reporting regarding residents.
Must be able to work under direct supervision of licensed nurse.
