JOB SUMMARY: The position exists to provide a technical chemistry team leader that serves as the lead trainer and works alongside other chemists in the lab to ensure the highest quality in testing and the development of said chemists. The Chemist III performs manual and automated titration test methods and compendial methods for measuring characteristics of raw materials stability samples and finished goods. The Chemist III is responsible for managing the inventory for the chemistry lab. They are responsible for ensuring the equipment is functioning and compliant through equipment qualifications in accordance with USP ISO ASTM and industry standards. They may provide technical advice to site management interpreting investigations problems throughout the facility. The Chemist III performs test method validations and test method transfers in accordance with USP and industry standards. The Chemist III also supports the QC LAB Manager with administrative tasks such as data review data archival and provide feedback on performance of others. They will perform Lab audits. They review and update documents associated with general lab operations and chemistry. The Chemist III assists higher level chemists designing processes and technical writing. The Chemist III may have direct customer interactions to explain technical and sensitive information regarding product quality.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Chemical testing tasks
Titrations pH routine batch testing and TOC analysis
ID testing by FTIR
ID testing following USP or other compendial standards
Gas Chromatography testing of finished goods and raw materials
High Performance Liquid Chromatography testing of finished goods and raw materials
Administrative support of the lab
Ordering and maintaining levels of laboratory supplies and consumables
Ensuring chemicals are monitored for proper receipt and labeling
Organization of paperwork flow
Archiving data
Reviewing logs for completion and accuracy
Authoring and reviewing specifications procedures work instructions forms
Compiling data for Key Performance Indicators

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each of the essential accountabilities satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.)
Bachelors degree in chemistry
5 years of experience in a QC lab and professionally demonstrated understanding of titration GC and HPLC
Must be familiar with interpreting USP General chapters related to reagent preparation and general ID tests
Must have experience in method validation and transfers following USP and ICH guidelines to meet FDA expectations
Must understand analytical instrument qualifications following USP guidelines
External training in current Chemistry topics will be required to become a Chemist III. Training could be in the form of traditional classroom training webinars or scientific conferences as provided by such organizations as AOAC Pittconn ACS USP etc.
Other training that is desirable for the position:
Graduate degree or certificate in analytical chemistry
Experience with ISO and ASTM standards for testing labs cosmetic testing and drug testing
Internal auditing experience
ASQ certification in metrology or auditing
Understanding of general microbiological test methods
