FACILITIES MAINTENANCE MECHANIC Facilities Maintenance Mechanic I Student Life/Housing Services |
Salary Range: $6076- $7766/Monthly |
Work Schedule: Full-Time Monday - Friday 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.; non-exempt classification. |
Essential Functions: Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Facilities the Facilities Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the inspection maintenance and repair of the physical plant within Student Housing. The incumbent will complete daily duties as directed by the Associate Director of Facilities and conduct work in accordance with department polices and memos. The incumbent performs corrective and preventive maintenance on mechanical systems facilities equipment and food service equipment including HVAC and plumbing systems. The Facilities Maintenance Mechanic responds to daily work orders for resident apartments/units conference groups and administrative areas. This position performs skilled trade work in carpentry plumbing telecommunications electrical heating ventilation air conditioning and painting to maintain modify and repair all components of the Housing Services portfolio. The Housing community serves approximately 3500 residents and includes two- and four-bedroom apartment-style units featuring kitchens dining rooms bathrooms and storage rooms as well as traditional residence hall facilities a new dining facility and various community meeting spaces. |
Required Qualifications & Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible experience leading to skills in a mechanical or facilities/building trade or any equivalent combination of training and experience as a facilities and systems mechanic which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to those acquired through completion of an applicable apprenticeship program. Knowledge of common terminology methods practices tools and procedures related to building and facilities services and maintenance and repair. Ability to demonstrate journey-level skills in one trade and strong skills in other applicable trades and determine cost-effective solutions to repairs. Ability to: maintain records using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems; analyze and respond to routine and emergencies; read and write at an appropriate level to the position; and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position. Ability to respond to calls outside office hours that cannot be resolved without a presence on-site referring to appropriate contractors as necessary. This position requires excellent customer skills communication skills to behave professionally courteously and helpful towards colleagues and residents. A valid CA drivers license is required. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position. California State University Los Angeles as part of the CSU system is a State of California Employer. As such the University requires all employees upon date of hire to reside in the State of California.
