Job Summary:

The Department of Pathobiological Sciences School of Veterinary Medicine University of Wisconsin-Madison seeksapplicants for a one-year temporary Clinical Instructor in Anatomic Pathology with a negotiable start date in December 2025 or early January 2026. This full-time position is designed to emphasizeclinical service with a focus on diagnostic pathology and concurrent pathology resident mentoring and instruction of DVMstudents. The successful applicant will have access to a diverse diagnostic caseload from the Veterinary Medical Teaching HospitalMilwaukee County Zoo and specialty clinics as well as the opportunity to collaborate with Comparative Ocular PathologyLaboratory of Wisconsin (COPLOW) pathologists in examining ocular biopsy specimens participate in the professional DVMand resident instructional programs in anatomic pathology and engage in collaborative research projects based on candidateinterest. If required time off for ACVP certifying examination study is provided. This is a fixed-term one year appointment. Renewal for the appointment is possible but is contingent upon funding program need and satisfactory performance.


The School of Veterinary Medicine and Pathobiological Sciences Department offers the successful candidate the opportunityto join a dedicated team of anatomic pathologists with diverse expertise including 4 faculty and an additional clinicalinstructor and work in a collegial and supportive environment with exceptional resources in anatomic pathology infectiousdisease pathobiology oncology food animal production medicine and other disciplines. The University of WisconsinVeterinary Clinic opened a $130 million veterinary teaching hospital in the spring of 2024 providing state-of-the-art clinical and research facilities. The School of Veterinary Medicine was ranked in the top 5 in 2025 by US News and World Report. A midsized city with big-city energy Madison offers diverse cultural and outdoor attractions locally and within a 2-hour drive.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Clinical instructors will rotate through necropsy surgical biopsy and histology services. Duties while on necropsy service include performing gross post-mortem exams training and supervising fourth-year veterinary students providing high quality diagnostic work and communicating with University of Wisconsin Veterinary Clinic clinicians. Duties while on biopsy and histology service include interpreting histopathology communicating with clinicians consulting with other pathologists and residents and preparing relevant case materials for rounds with various clinical services (Dermatopathology Neuropathology Special Species Oncology). All service work also involves training of anatomic pathology residents with semi-annual evaluations. Clinical instructors are also welcomed to share their expertise with residents in rounds didactic teaching and mentorship roles. Beginning in Fall 2025 the School of Veterinary Medicine will be teaching the body systems-based active learning-centered OnWard curriculum which will provide numerous opportunities for veterinary student instruction and

facilitation. Additional opportunities for teaching veterinary and undergraduate students and outreach work are also available.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must possess the DVM/VMD or equivalent degree be US citizens or permanent residents have had a minimum of3 years anatomic pathology training and be eligible for Wisconsin licensure. Since the pathology section at the University ofWisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine involves the practice of veterinary medicine on privately owned animalsthe successful applicant is required to be licensed in the state of Wisconsin at the start of the position.
