The Planning Assistant supports the planning department by performing technical administrative and research tasks related to land use urban development and community projects. This role assists planners in preparing reports reviewing development proposals collecting and analyzing data and engaging with the public and stakeholders. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong attention to detail analytical thinking and excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Compile analyze and present data related to urban planning zoning and land use.
Assist in the preparation of comprehensive plans studies maps and reports.
Review and process development applications permits and site plans.
Conduct research on planning policies codes and regulations.
Support public meetings hearings and community outreach programs.
Respond to inquiries from the public developers and other stakeholders.
Maintain and update databases records and GIS mapping systems.
Assist with the preparation of presentations and visual materials for public engagement.
Collaborate with planners and other city staff on special projects and initiatives.
Perform general administrative duties to support the planning department.
Qualifications:
Associates or Bachelors degree in Urban Planning Geography Public Administration Environmental Studies or a related field.
Previous experience or internship in a planning permitting or administrative role preferred.
Familiarity with planning concepts zoning regulations and land use principles.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with GIS software is a plus.
Strong organizational analytical and multitasking abilities.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
Demonstrated commitment to public service and community engagement.
Compensation:
Hourly Pay Rate: $25 - $35 per hour commensurate with education and experience.
