About the Role

As Mechanical Technician in the days team at Skelmersdale youll lead defined maintenance activities with a focus on mechanical systems. Youll be accountable for the performance and reliability of machinery through preventative and predictive maintenance strategies. This hands-on role is central to our ambition of zero breakdowns and zero stops and will contribute to both short-term performance and long-term asset development.

What You Will Do

  • Maintenance Leadership: Manage and plan mechanical work on site ensuring alignment with safety quality and legal standards

  • Technical Support: Coach and support operational colleagues in resolving mechanical issues and improving machine reliability

  • Performance Management: Own mechanical maintenance KPIs and drive continuous improvement to meet departmental objectives

  • System Oversight: Manage mechanical work through SAP (CMMS) ensuring accurate planning execution and documentation

  • Contractor Management: Oversee mechanical contractors and uphold high standards of work including quality audits and commissioning

  • Team Development: Lead and mentor junior technicians fostering skill development and capability growth

  • Workshop Excellence: Maintain workshop standards and ensure permit control and health & safety adherence

Who You Are

  • Completed a recognised multi-skilled or mechanical engineering apprenticeship ideally with City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3

  • Proven mechanical experience in heavy industry manufacturing or process environments

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and experience maintaining complex automated manufacturing systems including large rotating equipment and hydraulics

  • Skilled in planning mentoring and problem-solving with the ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines

  • Experience using SAP for maintenance planning and execution
