The hours for this position are 12:00pm-7:00pm with an hour lunch daily.
General Statement of Job |
Under limited supervision performs a variety of general custodial and light groundskeeping work in the care and maintenance of the district office. Work involves sweeping mopping and using vacuum cleaners to clean floors; washing walls woodwork windows and fixtures; replacing lights and air vents and policing buildings to empty trash receptacles and pick up debris etc.
Under limited supervision the School System Courier is responsible for the safe timely and efficient transportation of mail documents supplies educational materials and equipment among schools administrative offices and other district facilities. This role ensures smooth logistical support across the school system and requires reliability attention to detail and excellent time management. |
Essential Job Functions |
- Scrubs dusts sweeps mops vacuums waxes and polishes floors in rooms hallways and closets.
- Washes windows woodwork walls and other surfaces.
- Scrubs and cleans restroom fixtures.
- Orders and replenishes tissue towels and soap in restrooms kitchens and facilities.
- Unload and store supplies and deliveries.
- Replaces light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
- Empties wastebaskets and other refuse receptacles.
- Locks and unlocks doors.
- Makes minor repairs to furniture or facilities. Submits work orders for damages or needed repairs requiring outside attention.
- Performs related work as required.
- Pick up and deliver inter-office mail packages textbooks technology equipment testing materials and other supplies to/from district schools administrative buildings and external partners.
- Ensure items are securely handled and properly documented for tracking purposes.
- Maintain delivery logs and complete required paperwork (e.g. delivery receipts logs incident reports).
- Operate a district vehicle in a safe responsible and efficient manner complying with all traffic and safety regulations.
- Inspect and maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of district vehicles; report mechanical problems or needed repairs.
- Provide courteous and professional customer service to school staff and administrators.
- Handle sensitive or confidential materials with discretion and care.
- Support emergency or special deliveries as needed including during weather events or operational disruptions.
- Performs other duties as deemed appropriate and assigned by the supervisor

Knowledge Skills and Abilities |
- Working knowledge of cleaning methods materials and equipment.
- Skill in the use of small equipment used in routine cleaning.
- Basic ability to perform maintenance repairs and upkeep.
- Ability to maintain positive working relations.
- Ability to understand and follow simple oral or written directions.

Minimum Training and Experience |
- High school diploma or GED
- Some experience in housekeeping
- Must possess a valid North Carolina drivers license with a clean driving record
|
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions |
- Familiarity with basic delivery and inventory procedures.
- Basic computer skills.
- Must be physically able to operate vacuum cleaners carpet shampooers brooms mops leaf blowers etc.
- Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to push pull and carry or otherwise move objects.
- Requires climbing stooping reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting grasping and repetitive motion. May require working on ladders.
- Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using janitorial equipment. Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as janitorial equipment.
- Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
- Requires the ability to talk and hear: (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear.)
- Physical demand requirements are for medium work
- Reliable and punctual with strong time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and follow established schedules/routes.
