Basic Job Functions:
The role of the Gate Attendant is to safely carry-out the duties required at the West Gate including but not limited to; making a positive impression with each customer vendor and Teammate as they come on plant site; ensure that all policies and procedures that are required to enter plant site are followed; make sure drivers wear required PPE; communicate any special messaging needed before entering; schedule scrap truck appointments; safely and efficiently manage and monitor traffic flow in and out of the plant; initiate and follow OSHA inspection protocols. This position may also cross-train and support the scale clerk role at the East Gate. Nucor teammates are expected to participate in and promote an atmosphere of cooperation and teamwork while maintaining compliance in all areas of the site within our Quality Control System.
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate lead and uphold safety policies practices procedures and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 13 Years of Relevant Experience
Experience in customer service clerical work logistics or industrial environments. - Strong Communication and Customer Service Skills
Must be able to interact professionally and positively with drivers vendors teammates and visitors while clearly conveying site policies and safety requirements. - Ability to Work Independently and Manage Time Effectively
Must demonstrate the ability to work in a self-directed environment prioritize tasks and manage traffic flow efficiently with minimal supervision. - Basic Computer and Clerical Skills
Must be proficient in basic computer functions and clerical tasks
Physical Demands:
- Computer use: Extended typing data entry and screen time for CRM email and orders.
- Manual dexterity: Frequent hand use for typing phone and documents.
- Visual focus: Sustained attention to screen details.
Environmental Demands:
- Office-based: Primarily in a climate-controlled setting.
- Mill access: Occasional exposure to noise heat dust machinery and uneven surfaces; PPE required.
- Fast-paced: Requires multitasking prioritization and meeting deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Work history showing a high-performance level
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
