The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Southcoast Region Design & Engineering Servicesis looking for an Engineer/Architect 1/2 Flex in Juneau to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

Base Salary Information:
Engineer/Architect 1 $3633.00 / bi-weekly (OT Ineligible)
Engineer/Architect 2 $3885.00 / bi-weekly (OT Ineligible)


What you will be doing:
Engineer/Architect 1:
Under the general direction of the Design Manager or a registered professional engineer perform as Civil Engineer lead for small-to-medium-sized capital improvement projects including preliminary engineering & field reconnaissance thru final design & advertising. Work includes leading a multi-disciplinary team (internal staff and/or consultant) thru the development process for road & airport projects. Work also includes research development and final production of project deliverables (plans specifications estimates and other engineering documents). This position is able to independently perform field reconnaissance work as needed. The incumbent will work closely with & mentor Engineering Assistants.

Engineer/Architect 2:
Under the general direction of the Design Manager or a registered professional engineer perform as Civil Engineer lead for medium-to-large-sized capital improvement projects & all relevant duties outlined in the E/A 1 position above.

Who we are looking for:
To be successful in this position the selected applicant will possess the following core competencies:

  • Civil Engineering:Knowledge of the concepts principles theories and methods required to plan design construct operate and maintain facilities such as highway & airport transportation systems water and sanitary systems and other public works systems.
  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses a logical systematic sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on ones knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
  • Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively considering the audience and nature of the information (for example technical sensitive controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others attends to nonverbal cues and responds appropriately.

Special Note:

  • Valid Drivers License is required.
  • Requires occasional travel to project sites within the coastal region of Alaska (several trips during Spring/Summer/Fall). This may include flying to remote communities in small aircraft with infrequent need for overnight stays with minimal accommodations. Includes site inspections which can occur in adverse weather conditions.

Engineer/Architect 1

Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect.

Note: Positions in this class require professional registration as either an Engineer or an

Architect. The employer will designate which professional field is required for

each position.


Special Note:

Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by

the State Board of Registration for Architects Engineers and Land Surveyors

eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under

this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and

sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

Engineer/Architect 2

Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect and one year of professional

experience as an Engineer/Architect 1 or Engineering Associate with the State

of Alaska or the equivalent.

Special Note:

the State Board of Registration for Architects Engineers and Land Surveyors

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the Engineer/Architect 1 or Engineer/Architect 2 level depending on the applicants training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at a lower level promotion to the higher level will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
