Job Summary
Distribution Dispatch/GIS Technician - West provides operational support 24 hours a day 7 days week by dispatching for electric and gas utility service requests. Dispatches resources that respond during outage restoration and a wide variety of emergency situations. Perform visual and computer quality control checks on facility and/or landbase data. Using GIS system tools to make corrections close and map work orders. Ensure map products reflect correct geographic locations of electric and gas assets and have standard cartographic quality.
What you will do- Receives and executes orders from System Operations or other authorized personnel and dispatches employees to correct conditions.
- Monitors instruments and other operation indicators. Reports changes as prescribed and other irregularities to proper authority. Keeps a log of orders and operations and other pertinent events. Makes reports as required.
- Operates two-way radio PCs CRTs and other electronic equipment.
- Receives customer trouble and service calls either electronically or by telephone.
- Notifies proper personnel and dispatches company technicians on electric and gas trouble and service calls and keeps record of event times for emergency response.
- Receives and dispatches emergency locate requests throughout the company.
- Monitors weather forecasts throughout the entire company and advises districts of weather conditions in advance in preparation for service restoration.
- Compare source documents to products and information shipped from field offices. Using quality assurance/quality control product and editor tool enter data reconcile errors verify validity of information and assign attribute information as appropriate.
- Assign phasing notation to map product utilizing switch diagrams and information material information etc. as provided on source documents.
- Using editor tool convert post conversion source document details into automated area maps and related data base(s). This includes work orders/work requests (installation/removal of poles gas mains and other units of property as shown on work orders/work requests or otherwise identified) shared use information etc. Maintain switch diagrams and maps from Work Management System (WMS) work order map sketch etc.
- Perform data entry functions related to cleanup and ongoing data maintenance of utility facilities. May also perform data entry functions related to cleanup and ongoing data maintenance of landbase data. Validate GIS data against field data and revise as changes occur. Correct permanent location numbers as needed. Work with field personnel to assure timely and accurate work request/as-built closing process. May be required to update wall maps and related materials used for switching operations.
- Follows prescribed company policies and procedures and department standards.
- Prepares reports as required. Updates records and data as assigned including both manual and computer systems.

Education Requirements- High School Diploma High School Diploma or GED Required
Required Experience- 2 years experience in utility construction design dispatch and/or mapping.
- This job is covered by the Department of Transportation regulations on drug and alcohol testing (CFR 49 Parts 40 and 199) and is subject to drug testing according to said regulations.
- DSO guidelines include a 30-minute response time from the employees residence to the DSO.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities- Demonstrated knowledge of construction standards and work requests.
- Understanding and knowledge of electric gas and landbase components operations and systems.
- Familiarity and understanding of pole area maps underground area maps gas maps and switch diagrams.
- Preferred knowledge of work request process and other corporate information systems such as Work Management System (WMS) Switch Maintenance (SWM) Transformer and Records Systems (TRS) Distribution Interruption Devices (DID) Distribution Management System (DMS) etc.
- Understanding of Geographic Information System (GIS) applications or graphical applications or the ability to learn them.
- Ability to use computer systems. Demonstrated cartographic skills.
- Strong communication skills including grammar and telephone etiquette.
- Demonstrated ability to perform accurate work in a time frame which meets department objectives.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
- Ability to perform physical requirements of the job.
