Job Summary
The Department of Psychology at Lamar University invites applications for a 9-month tenure track Assistant Professor of Psychology beginning Fall of 2026. The area of specialization is open; however candidates with a sufficient background in Biological Psychology or Neuroscience to teach a Behavioral Neuroscience course at the undergraduate and graduate levels are preferred.
Successful candidates will:
- Teach a variety of courses at the undergraduate level (e.g. General Psychology Introduction to Statistics Research Methods Biological Basis of Behavior) and masters level (e.g. Behavioral Neuroscience Multivariate Data Analysis)
- Maintain an active program of research that attempts to include undergraduate and graduate students
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate student research
- Serve on graduate student thesis committees
- Actively engage in service to the department college and university
Essential Job Functions
- Implement effective teaching strategies while teaching a 4/4 load fall & spring semesters.
- Maintain an active program of research.
- Actively participate in academic service at the department college and university levels.
- Serve on graduate student thesis committees.
Minimum and Desired Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- This position requires a minimum of a PhD in Psychology. ABD applicants will be considered; however the applicant must have earned their doctorate prior to hire date.

- Ability to implement effective and innovative teaching strategies.
- Ability to maintain active program of research.
- Demonstrated commitment to service to the university profession and community.
