Job Summary

The Department of Psychology at Lamar University invites applications for a 9-month tenure track Assistant Professor of Psychology beginning Fall of 2026. The area of specialization is open; however candidates with a sufficient background in Biological Psychology or Neuroscience to teach a Behavioral Neuroscience course at the undergraduate and graduate levels are preferred.

Successful candidates will:

Teach a variety of courses at the undergraduate level (e.g. General Psychology Introduction to Statistics Research Methods Biological Basis of Behavior) and masters level (e.g. Behavioral Neuroscience Multivariate Data Analysis)
Maintain an active program of research that attempts to include undergraduate and graduate students
Mentor undergraduate and graduate student research
Serve on graduate student thesis committees
Actively engage in service to the department college and university

Essential Job Functions

Implement effective teaching strategies while teaching a 4/4 load fall & spring semesters.
Maintain an active program of research.
Actively participate in academic service at the department college and university levels.
Serve on graduate student thesis committees.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires a minimum of a PhD in Psychology. ABD applicants will be considered; however the applicant must have earned their doctorate prior to hire date.
