General Description
The Pediatric Psychologist Consultation Liaison Services at Oklahoma Childrens Hospital at OU Health provides integrated behavioral health services to patients from birth to young adulthood. Clinical focus areas in this position will include the general consultation/liaison service within a childrens medical/surgical hospital. Common presenting behavioral health concerns include but are not limited to coping/adjustment adherence issues behavior management pain/symptom management anxiety/depressed mood psychogenic concerns acute stress grief/end-of-life family/parent support and changing/evaluating safety precaution levels. The psychologist is integral to the multidisciplinary patient team including physicians advanced nurse practitioners child life specialists behavioral health technicians registered dietitian(s) social worker(s) nurses medical residents and support staff. Involvement in other academic activities include research clinical supervision and mentoring of psychology and medical learners and program development.
Clinical Responsibilities
Provide pediatric psychology/behavioral health services focusing on a variety of health conditions. This includes psychosocial assessment short-term intervention and consultation/liaison services for children hospitalized in the PICU NICU general medical and surgical wards and emergency department.
Provide brief interventions as part of medical treatment plan.
Collaborate with other professionals in team rounds didactics and meetings.
Provide psychosocial assessment and collaboration in development of medical treatment plans.
Provide consultation services to the multidisciplinary care team.
Help facilitate communication within the team and between patient families and medical team.
Develop and support implementation of behavior plans.
Assist with the development and dissemination of psychoeducational resources for patients.
Attend and participate in provider team meetings to address care coordination and operation procedures.
Obtain 20 pediatric psychology continuing education credits (3 in ethics) to meet Oklahoma State Board of Examiners of Psychologists licensure requirements related to declared specialty.
Complete clinic notes within 4 days of the date services are rendered.
Additional Responsibilities
Provide oversight of behavioral health services to ensure excellence in service delivery.
Engage in quality improvement program development and research related to clinical interests that enhance behavioral health services.
Support development coordination and implementation of psychological service programs.
Develop partnerships with community mental health organizations.
Participate in development and implementation of psychology trainee performance evaluations.
Ensure adherence to OU Health standards of service and practice.
Develop screening processes to meet standards of care and managed Medicaid requirements.
Lead huddles/ meetings of psychosocial team members to improve patient care.
Academic Responsibilities
Be eligible for a faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics and Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
Provide supervision and mentoring of psychology practicum students interns and residents.
Involvement in the teaching and research supervision of medical residents interns and students.
Collaborate with pediatric psychologists to secure extramural funding to support our training programs.
Serve as primary investigators on research projects approved by the IRB and disseminate research findings at the local and national levels.
Qualifications
Doctoral degree (PhD/ PsyD) in clinical or counseling psychology.
Completion of an APA/CPA accredited internship.
Licensed as a Health Service psychologist in the state of Oklahoma.
Specialized training such as postdoctoral residency/ fellowship in pediatric psychology.
Experience working with children adolescents and young adults with a wide range of behavioral health concerns including evidence-based interventions for common psychological problems physical health issues and prevention.
Experience in an integrated pediatric health care setting.
Experience in research research training or program development.
Demonstrated potential to contribute to the OU Health missions of patient care education and research.
