Job Summary:
The Housing Solutions Officer will provide a comprehensive housing advice and homelessness prevention service ensuring that customers receive accurate information timely support and effective solutions to secure accommodation.
The post holder will assess housing needs prevent homelessness where possible and manage caseloads in line with statutory duties under housing legislation.
The role requires excellent knowledge of housing law customer service skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
Deliver high-quality housing advice to applicants seeking assistance with homelessness or housing difficulties.
Assess housing applications in line with relevant housing and homelessness legislation.
Develop and implement effective homelessness prevention plans.
Manage a personal caseload ensuring decisions are made promptly and accurately.
Liaise with landlords letting agents support providers and other agencies to secure suitable housing options.
Maintain accurate case notes and records in accordance with data protection and service requirements.
Work collaboratively with colleagues across departments to achieve housing and safeguarding outcomes.
Ensure all actions comply with current housing law guidance and internal policies.
Skills/Experience:
Experience of working within housing advice homelessness prevention or a related public sector environment.
Detailed knowledge of relevant housing legislation including the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
Proven ability to manage a complex caseload and meet tight deadlines.
Strong communication negotiation and problem-solving skills.
Excellent IT and administrative skills including accurate record-keeping.
Ability to work with empathy and professionalism when dealing with vulnerable individuals and families.
Collaborative team working and stakeholder engagement experience.
