Columbia Universitys Strategic Communication masters program seeks a part-time lecturer to
teach a graduate-level course in Communication for Global Professionals. This course in cross-
cultural communication offers students the specialized knowledge and skills needed to
successfully navigate global organizations in a variety of sectors and industries. Through
lectures and readings of theoretical and empirical work students deepen their knowledge of
and respect for different cultural orientations values attitudes and beliefs and discover how
these variations influence communicative practices across global professional settings. Through
observation data collection and analysis students uncover principles that govern
communicative interaction and the social and cultural factors that influence when to speak
and when not to speak what to say to whom when where and in what manner.
Responsibilities
Based on a previously designed and approved syllabus lead class lectures instructional
activities and classroom discussion
Evaluate and grade student assignments
Monitor and address student questions and concerns
Hold office hours
Attend program faculty meetings (three per term)
Participate in relevant training as recommended by the Deputy Program Director
Qualifications :
Graduate degree with a preference for Ph.D. in communication sociolinguistics or related field
Familiarity with theory and research in cross-cultural communication
7 years of industry experience in global organizations
Available for in-person daytime classes (Thursdays 10:10am-12:00pm preferred)
Preferred Skills/Experience
2 years of graduate teaching experience

Compensation
$10000 - $11000 (for the semester)
