The Biologist Program Manager position is within the Office of Fisheries Research & Development Division/Research & Assessment Section and domiciled in Baton Rouge/Eat Baton Rouge Parish.

The Program Manager supervises Stock Assessment Biologists Research Biologists and Age & Growth Laboratory staff; Ensures that staff contribute to our understanding of fisheries life history and the stock assessment process while working in tandem to achieve Departmental goals; Develops and manages biological and environmental research and management activities. Additionally the Program Manager will represent the Department in various meetings at the local state and federal levels in which fisheries life history and/or stock assessment are the focus.



AN IDEAL CANDIDATE POSSES THE FOLLOWING SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of fisheries stock assessment/statistics
  • Knowledge of Louisiana aquatic organisms
  • Supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of research and evaluation methods
  • Good observational and analytical skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelors degree in a biological science marine science environmental science wildlife or fisheries animal science forestry or natural resources plus seven years of experience in wildlife or fisheries forestry or environmental science; OR

A non-thesis masters degree in a biological science marine science environmental science wildlife or fisheries animal science forestry or natural resources plus six years of the required specialized experience; OR

A masters degree with a completed thesis or a doctorate in a biological science marine science environmental science wildlife or fisheries animal science forestry or natural resources plus five years of the required specialized experience.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Oversees the daily operations of their section including administrative duties
  • Coordinates with the Biologist Director to identify funding opportunities and develop funding/grant proposals
  • Designs and manages large-scale research projects
  • Manages contracts
  • Ensures that staff have the resources they need to fulfill Departmental goals
  • Manages large-scale research and monitoring projects
  • Summarizes data and generates/reviews figures analyses and text fortechnical reports
  • Participates in regional working groups as needed
  • Represents LDWF with professionalism in all public events and forums

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type:Promotion(open to all statewide classified and agency-wide permanent status employees)

Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group

Compensation: The salaryoffered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.
