Sexual and Violent Offending Liaison Officer (SAVOLO)
Various locations across Edinburgh

Salary: 46023 - 54476
Hours: 36 per week

An exciting opportunities have arisen within Edinburgh Justice Services and we are looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual to join our service as SAVOLO. Accountable to the Team Leader and with public safety being paramount as a SAVOLO you will work closely with colleagues across Edinburgh Justice Services the wider Council and other partners including Police Scotland Health Scottish Prison Service and Third Sector to make decisions regarding risk levels develop risk management plans which mitigate against these risks and safeguard the public and provide support and advice to colleagues and partners.

We offer a high level of training to support continuous professional development and to deliver a broad range of interventions including established accredited group work programmes. We are implementing Trauma Informed Practice Safe & Together and Restorative Justice practice models and interventions across our services and have established a Womens Centre in partnership with NHS Lothian to reduce barriers and meet the needs of women involved in the justice system.

Candidates will have a Social Work qualification recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and be registered or eligible to register with the addition they will be trained in and have extensive experience of using risk assessment tools and leading risk management processes.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. Anunconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.

Responsibilities

Experience:

  • Extensive experience in supervising sex and serious violent offenders and in managing them under Criminal Justice Risk Management Procedures and Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements (essential).
  • Experience of working with people with a range of complex and challenging needs (essential).
  • Experience of effective partnership working within a multi-agency environment (essential).
  • Previous experience in chairing multi agency case conferences including PMAP and developing complex risk management plans (desirable).
  • Previous experience of working with people with a complex trauma presentation (desirable).

Knowledge Skills and Understanding

  • Extensive knowledge of Criminal Justice Risk Assessment and Risk Management Procedures (essential).
  • Sound knowledge and experience in Child and Adult Protection policies and procedures (essential).
  • Understanding and experience of implementing effective social work interventions to people convicted of offences and subject to statutory supervision (essential).
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills (essential).
  • Knowledge of the wider justice system (essential).
  • Knowledge of National Outcomes and Standards in Justice Social Work (essential).
  • Knowledge of legislation and policies in relation to criminal justice social work child and adult protection and public protection (essential).
  • Understanding of the dynamics and impact of domestic abuse (desirable).
  • Understanding of the impact of trauma (desirable).

Qualifications and Training

  • Training in specific risk assessment tools including LSCMI RM2000 and SAO7 (essential).
  • A recognised Social Work degree is required (essential).
  • Registration with SSSC is required (essential).
  • Additional training in risk assessment tools including RSVP HCR20 and SARA. Training related to Personality Disorders and Stalking (desirable).

  • Ability to tailor communication to enable effective engagement with a diverse range of people (essential).
  • Ability to analyse and review complex info to reach objective evidence-based decisions (essential).
  • Ability to demonstrate working effectively with a variety of organisations agencies and disciplines including Police Health Housing Childrens Services Health and Social Care Partnership Third Sector and the Scottish Prison Service (essential).
  • Flexibility and the ability to work in a rapidly changing environment (essential).
  • Driving licence (desirable).
