San Francisco Bay University (SFBU) seeks a motivated and detail-oriented SFBU student to support the External Relations division. The External Relations Student Intern will assist with identifying new grant opportunities and helping strengthen alumni engagement. This role offers hands-on experience in fundraising research and external relations work providing valuable professional development in higher education fundraising and relationship building. This is a non-exempt part-time hybrid (remote with occasional on-campus meetings) position located in Fremont CA with a schedule of 45 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Use SFBUs grant prospecting software Instrumentl to research and compile potential funding opportunities.
• Prepare summary reports in Instrumentl on prospective grants for review by the development team.
• Conduct research on SFBU alumni using LinkedIn creating targeted lists of potential alumni contacts for engagement.
• Maintain organized tracking of leads and research in shared databases.
• Support other External Relations projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Current enrolled student (undergraduate or graduate) in good standing with strong interest in nonprofit management external relations sales communications or related fields.
• Excellent research and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
• Comfortable working independently and managing time effectively within limited weekly hours.
• Proficiency with online research tools; experience with LinkedIn preferred.
• Familiarity with grant research or CRM databases (such as Instrumentl Salesforce) is a plus but training will be provided.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• Demonstrated strong commitment to diversity equity inclusion and social justice.
• Knowledge of research methodologies and nonprofit advancement practices.
• Skill in using online databases CRMs and social media for research and engagement.
• Ability to work independently prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a remote or hybrid environment.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

• Duties are primarily performed in a remote/office environment with occasional on-campus meetings.
• Physical demands may include sitting or standing for long periods and occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs.
