Across our 60 locations we provide programs in a variety of service areas including workforce development children youth families seniors and homeless prevention.
Our Adolescent Development Programs provide teenagers with opportunities to develop important life skills while promoting academic achievement career exploration and exposure to the arts. Our middle school and high school Neighborhood Development Area Programs work year-round with students 13 to 17 years of age to ensure a smooth transition from early to late adolescence and to create a safe space for them to explore their interests. The programs operate after school and during the summer offering: Community service opportunities Homework assistance and tutoring Leadership development Literacy and STEM enrichment Structured recreation Work readiness training.
A dance instructor teaches and choreographs routines creates lesson plans and provides feedback to students of various ages and skill levels. They require strong communication organizational skills extensive dance experience and the ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Instruction:Designing and delivering engaging dance lessons demonstrating various techniques and providing guidance.
- Choreography:Developing custom choreography for performances and competitions tailored to student strengths.
- Lesson Planning:Preparing weekly lesson plans that align with curriculum objectives and student skill levels.
- Student Assessment:Evaluating student progress and offering constructive feedback to enhance their technical skills and artistic expression.
- Event Management:Organizing and managing dance recitals showcases and other events.
- Classroom Management: Maintaining a positive friendly and inclusive classroom environment that fosters teamwork and respect.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Experience:Professional dance experience and often teaching experience with some studios offering training programs.
- Communication:Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to connect with students and parents.
- Creativity:The ability to create engaging choreography and lesson content.
- Adaptability:Tailoring teaching methods to different ages learning styles and abilities.
- Organization:Strong time-management and organizational skills for planning lessons and managing events.
- Personality: An outgoing energetic and positive personality to motivate and inspire students.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Private Studios/Community Schools:Often a high school diploma or equivalent is sufficient especially with professional certification.
Career Paths
