The Platform Reliability Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability scalability and performance of our Information Technology infrastructure. The incumbent will maintain the security and integrity of communication infrastructure systems and cybersecurity systems as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code; and support managing a complex private and public cloud infrastructure. This position will work closely with IT staff and agency employees.
This position is being posted at three levels. The applicant selected will be offered the role that aligns with their education and experience

WHAT WILL YOU DO
Platform Reliability Engineer Associate
Core Platform Engineering
Assists with data protection and disaster recovery strategies.
Automates processes and integrations across multiple technologies using Infrastructure-as-code primarily using PowerShell.
Works closely with cross functional teams to design implement maintain and monitor IT infrastructure.
Assists with providing infrastructure design and support focusing in areas such as Microsoft Azure VMware Red Hat OpenShift Windows Server Red Hat Enterprise Linux Cisco MDS NetApp and Pure storage.
Utilizes source control continuous integration and delivery and configuration management processes and tools.
System Support & Maintenance
Performs analysis and troubleshooting infrastructure problems.
Assist in assessing future information technology requirements and assist in developing long-range comprehensive infrastructure planning and roadmaps.
Provides assistance with installation configuration monitoring and maintenance of core platform infrastructure.
Collaborates with cross-functional IT teams and agency staff to establish and sustain scalable reliable and high-performing systems ensure infrastructure security and consult with teams to identify necessary tasks for supporting project initiatives.
Monitors applications and systems to ensure compliance with licensing agreements and system availability.
Participates in planning organizing coordinating and/or contributing to special projects.
Research developments in the platform reliability engineering field including emerging technologies and trends and then recommends processes and tools to help continuously improve processes and procedures to deliver business value.
May be required to be available for on-call duty or scheduled for after-hours work.

Leads cross-functional teams in designing implementing maintaining and monitoring IT infrastructure.
Provides expertise in infrastructure design and support focusing in areas such as Microsoft Azure VMware Red Hat OpenShift Windows Server Red Hat Enterprise Linux Cisco MDS NetApp and Pure storage.
Establish and enhance source control continuous integration and delivery and configuration management processes and tools.
System Support & Maintenance
Provides expertise in analyzing and diagnosing complex infrastructure problems.
Assesses future information technology requirements and drives the development of long-range comprehensive infrastructure planning and roadmaps.
Responsible for the installation configuration monitoring and maintenance of core platform infrastructure.
Leads collaboration with cross-functional IT teams and agency staff to establish and sustain scalable reliable and high-performing systems ensure infrastructure security and consult with teams to identify necessary tasks for supporting project initiatives.
Monitors applications and systems rigorously to ensure compliance with licensing agreements and system availability.
Leads planning organizing and coordinating special projects.

WHAT WILL YOU BRING
Required Education
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in engineering computer science IT or a closely related field.
High school diploma or equivalent and additional full-time work experience in information systems computer operations programming database development or a similarly related technical experience may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.
Required Experience
Must have the ability to maintain the security and integrity of communication infrastructure systems and cybersecurity systems as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code and:
One (1) year of full-time experience in platform engineering experience or a similarly related experience. (for Platform Reliability Engineer Associate)
Three(3) years of full-time experience in platform engineering experience or a similarly related experience.(for Platform Reliability Engineer)
One(1) year of full-time experience administering a Microsoft Windows server environment or similarly related experience. (for Platform Reliability Engineer)
Five (5) years of full-time experience in platform engineering experience or a similarly related experience.(for Platform Reliability Engineer Senior)
Three (3) year of full-time experience administering a Microsoft Windows server environment or similarly related experience. (for Platform Reliability Engineer Senior)
Proven ability to develop maintain and use automated processes and tools to provide reliable IT infrastructure.
Experience may be concurrent.
A masters degree or doctoral degree in a directly related field may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.
Required Registration Certification or Licensure
None
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Microsoft Azure IaaS and PaaS Red Hat OpenShift VMware vSphere NetApp Pure Storage Cisco MDS Commvault and infrastructure design and support.
Experience in Windows and Red Hat infrastructure design and support.
Experience with one or more of the following technologies: Microsoft Windows Server Microsoft Active Directory DFS PKI PowerShell and SolarWinds Monitoring suite.
Experience creating automation and utilizing GitHub.
Experience with Agile ITIL methodologies and best practices.
Experience collaborating with business development and operational teams to support Agile project delivery.
Possession of one or more of the following certifications: Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate Red Hat Certified OpenShift Administrator VMware Certified Professional
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
Cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure including infrastructure-as-code.
Containerization technologies (e.g. Docker Kubernetes) and container orchestration.
VMware vSphere and Horizon Virtualization
Proficiency in scripting and automation using languages such as PowerShell or Python.
Solid understanding of networking concepts security best practices and system monitoring tools.
Enterprise storage block and file services.
Skills in:
Analyzing complex problems and developing workable solutions.
Communicating complex technical information to people of all levels of technical knowledge.
Planning organizing and coordinating work to effectively meet frequent and/or multiple deadlines; handling multiple tasks simultaneously; and managing conflicting priorities and demands.
Ability to:
Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers agency staff and external contacts.
Work effectively in a professional team environment.
