Job Summary

Workdays & Hours: This position works on an as-needed basis between the hours of Monday Friday 8am 5pm.

Location: A.D. Marshall Municipal Court Building 1000 Throckmorton Street Fort Worth TX 76102

This is a part-time position with a maximum of 19 hours per week and not eligible for city benefits. The essential job function of this position requires the incumbent to be available to substitute for the full-time Hearing Officer on an as-needed basis.

The City of Fort Worth Municipal Court Administration Division is seeking a Substitute Hearing Officer.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in criminal justice pre-law public administration or a related field
  • Two years of increasingly responsible code enforcement or conflict resolution experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of pertinent Federal State and local laws codes ordinances and regulations and the ability to interpret and apply them accordingly
  • Experience in conducting administrative hearings
  • Exercises sound judgment and maintains professionalism in challenging or sensitive situations
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and interpersonal relations

The Substitute Hearing Officer job responsibilities include:

  • Hear and resolve various administrative appeals as provided in the City Code including but not limited to:
    • Parking citations
    • Junked vehicles
    • Solid waste violations
    • Multifamily dwelling complex registrations
    • Vehicle immobilizations.
  • Review parking citations and other paperwork to ensure accuracy and completeness

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Depending on assignment positions in this class typically require touching talking hearing seeing grasping standing walking and repetitive motions.

Light Work Depending on assignment positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time the job is rated Light Work.

Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions Felony Deferred Adjudication Class A Misdemeanor Conviction Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor) and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.
