Position Overview
As a Utility Operator in the Drinking Water Division you will play a vital role in maintaining and improving the Citys water infrastructure and assets. This position involves operating specialized equipment performing water system maintenance and supporting the delivery of safe reliable drinking water to the community. Youll be expected to continually develop and master new skills to support the departments progressive goals.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform meter reading and apply basic math skills
- Respond to after-hours emergencies (on-call rotation)
- Safely operate specialty equipment including backhoe skid steer and construction tools
- Provide excellent customer service in all interactions
- Conduct basic plumbing skills such as pipefittings couplings and water services
- Troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues
- Manage daily tasks and submit accurate reports
- Safely use hand and power tools (e.g. saws drills drain snakes)
Education & Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices
Special Requirements
- Valid Drivers License with insurability to operate City vehicles
- Ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months of employment

- Build and maintain effective working relationships
- Communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing
- Follow instructions with accuracy and attention to detail
- Demonstrate reliability initiative and resourcefulness

Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods in indoor and outdoor settings
- Work in adverse weather conditions including rain snow extreme heat and cold
- Navigate confined spaces elevated areas and active construction zones
- Operate heavy equipment and vehicles safely during both day and night shifts
- Maintain visual acuity to identify hazards and read documentation
- May be exposed to loud noises dust fumes chemicals and other occupational hazards
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
