Job Duties:

Position Summary:

The Case Manager reports to the Coordinator of Student Support & Case Management. This position meets with students in distress to coordinate resources and interventions. This position works collaboratively with students families staff faculty and community partners to support students well-being. This position is also a member of the university Student Support Team. This position leads trainings and programs that support students well-being.

Duties:

60% Case Management

  • Support students of concern by meeting with students connecting students to resources coordinating interventions and engaging in follow-up to support their overall success.

  • Communicate with families guardians and designated emergency contacts as permitted under FERPA to respond to critical student matters and support students well-being.

  • Serve as a member of the Student Support Team including identifying and monitoring students of concern assisting the team in identifying interventions and ensuring personnel engage in timely follow-up on student matters

  • Collaborate with units including the Student Health & Wellness Center Financial Aid University Housing Accessibility Resource Center Student Success Center and others to coordinate resources and interventions.

  • Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with community agencies that offer services that may benefit students.

  • Implement missing student protocol for students reported missing.

  • Provide consultation to students employees families guardians and community partners regarding students in distress and other student concerns.

  • Maintain records and track outreach and interventions using case management database.

  • Triage student emergencies and crises and coordinate efforts with appropriate Dean of Students staff UWM departments and community agencies.

30% Student Support Operations

  • In coordination with the Coordinator of Student Support and Case Management assist in developing and implementing protocols and procedures for responding to students in distress.

  • Provide consultation to administrators and staff to advance institutional and unit policies procedures and initiatives regarding students in distress.

  • In coordination with the Coordinator of Student Support and Case Management assist in developing and facilitating training and ongoing professional development for the Student Support Team.

  • Serve as a back-up for the Coordinator of Student Support and Case Management to triage incoming referrals monitor police logs and assign cases

  • Serve as a back-up for the Coordinator of Student Support and Case Management to lead the university Student Support Team.

  • Foster a university culture of support via trainings presentations workshops campus engagement websites publications etc.

  • Advance continuous improvement via program assessment and annual reporting.

  • Engage in fundraising and grant writing efforts to support the advancement of programs that support students health and well-being.

10% Leadership

  • Serve as a resource for students families employees and community partners and work collaboratively to address student concerns support students success and ensure safety and policy compliance.

  • Engage in critical incident response including student protests civil unrest and event management.

  • Support overall Dean of Students Office operations and as needed serve as an advisor hearing officer and/or final authority for cases of non-academic misconduct academic misconduct tuition and fee appeals and student complaints and grievances and emergency grants.

  • Participate in outreach attend campus events and lead Dean of Students presentations.

  • Engage in strategic planning for the Dean of Students Office.

  • Serve on university division department and search committees.

  • Stay current on research promising practices policies and regulations and apply knowledge toward efforts to enhance support for students success.

  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority and follow through with all reporting obligations.

  • Maintain proficiency of UW-Milwaukee and UW System policies regarding Clery Title IX sexual harassment sexual violence consensual relationships discriminatory conduct student discipline and student financial policies.

  • Maintain knowledge of UWMs workplace health and safety procedures parameters and workplace standards and as a supervisor ensure compliance within the Dean of Students Office.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities and Working Conditions:

This position must be able to work both collaboratively and with a high level of discretion in a fast-paced environment to help resolve complex sensitive matters that often involve multiple departments and have a potentially significant impact on students wellness finances and enrollment. It requires the use of student-centered asset-based approaches sound judgment ethical leadership complex reasoning strong interpersonal skills prioritization initiative and deep understanding of issues related to poverty mental health equity inclusion and student success.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Serves as primary resource and referral source for students/clients in dealing with a crisis and/or mental health issues
  • Documents all cases and accurately maintains records of cases discussed
  • Creates implements coordinates and monitors treatment plans to assist students/clients in meeting wellness goals
  • Assesses needs of students/clients and provides or recommends interdisciplinary care
  • Prepares reports based on documented data as needed

Department: Dean Of Students Office - Student Affairs

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is expected to be between $ 52000 - 57000

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in education counseling psychology social work or related field.

  • 1 year of full-time experience in student affairs advising student advocacy human services social work counseling psychology or related area. (1 year of an assistantship 0.5 year of full-time experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in higher education counseling psychology social work or related field.

  • At least 1 year of experience successfully managing a large and diverse caseload.

  • Experience with campus behavioral interventions and crises response within a university setting.

  • Experience using person/student-centered asset-based approaches to addressing complex personal challenges.

  • Demonstrated understanding of issues theories and practices relate to poverty mental health equity and inclusion and student success.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead others take initiative prioritize and successfully manage competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
