Your role and responsibilities

  • The Highway Enforcement Teams responsibility is to ensure that the highway remains safe for highway role as Highway Enforcement Officer would be not limited to enforcing highway legislation it would include educating and building relationships to make a positive impact within Suffolk.
  • Day to day tasks can vary depending on the needs of the service and changing priorities of cases. Your tasks could include direct customer contact site visits and meetings with customers investigating landownership and providing accurate information to Elected Members (councillors).
  • Due to the nature of the role there will be many opportunities for you to collaborate with other teams within Suffolk example the Enforcement Team work closely with the Drainage Team to assist with drainage investigations to alleviate flooding on the highway.

You will need

  • Our ideal candidate will have proven customer service skills in a customer service-related environment which can be utilised to provide the best possible service for customers and Elected Members of Suffolk County Council.
  • Excellent communication skills that you can transfer to educating and negotiating beneficial outcomes with our customers and the ability to collaborate with others such as team members internal and external partners.
  • A good knowledge of computer systems such as MS Outlook Excel Word and Sharepoint. Knowledge of Insight and Oracle systems are desirable but not essential as training would be given.

The team

The Highway Enforcement Team consists of four Officers covering Suffolk who have their own areas of responsibility. However support is always on hand from the other members of the team should anyone need assistance or just another point of view. Previous work carried out by the team has had a positive impact on areas within Suffolk and the team are very proud of the work and outcomes that they achieve both individually and as a team.

Our team practices hybrid working and share their time working from home meeting in the office and conducting site visits which can be solo or with other team members. Due to the geographical nature of the position it is not always possible to meet in person but we do have weekly meetings via Teams.
