Position Summary
The successful candidates will perform Venipuncture and ECG on inpatients throughout the UHNs Rehabilitation and Complex Care sites.

The division of Specimen Management specializes in specimen procurement and processing for all UHN sites. As a valued member of the Mobile Phlebotomy Team you will play a key role in inpatient specimen procurement for complex care sites and UHN partners within Toronto Metro Area. Ability to travel to different sites is a requirement. 

Duties

  • Perform venipuncture ECG Holter Monitor Hook-up on inpatients 
  • Perform basis specimen management
  • Organize and arrange transport of specimens
  • Practice and provide patient centered care
  • Use hospital information systems to access and document procedures
  • Participate in training of staff
  • Maintain adequate supply stocks
  • Adhere to safe working environment and comply with IPAC

Qualifications :

  • Completion of Grade 12 or recognized equivalent
  • Graduate of a post-secondary Laboratory Technician or Laboratory Assistant certificate program or recognized equivalent
  • MLPAO or CSMLS license preferred
  • Minimum one (1) year related work experience in a laboratory setting
  • Minimum one (1) year recent work experience in venipuncture ECG and specimen management
  • Effective organizational time management skills and prioritization skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of appropriate behaviour required working successfully in a diverse work group.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Procedures in a laboratory
  • Computer literate in Windows based applications
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member
  • Ability to work accurately under stressful conditions
