PATHs Center for Vaccine Innovation and Access (CVIA) spans every stage of the complex process of vaccine research development and introduction to make lifesaving vaccines widely available to women children and communities across the world. CVIA identifies the most promising vaccines for low- and middle-income countries and partners with donors vaccine manufacturers and governments to move these vaccine candidates through the development process to licensure and WHO Prequalification. Our current portfolio encompasses more than two dozen vaccines either in development or already in use. PATH has led numerous global partnerships including the award-winning Meningitis Vaccine Project and the Malaria Vaccine Initiative which helped develop the worlds first malaria vaccine recommended by the WHO.

CVIA is looking for a Vaccine Project Director to lead interdisciplinary vaccine teams with an initial focus on viral targets. The position is initially anticipated to be part-time 60%. We are open to discussing ideal hours during the interview process.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Global Head of Viral Diseases the Project Director will lead multi-disciplinary project teams as follows:

  • Lead the initial drafting and/or continuous refinement of grant narratives and project plans. For product development efforts deliverables may include a value proposition target product profile results framework and integrated product development plan (IPDP). In these efforts the Project Director is responsible for ensuring alignment of work with PATHs mission values and policies.

  • With functional experts direct the generation of a budget and establish project milestones and success criteria. Communicate and align with donor.

  • Ensure execution of the project plans as agreed with partner(s) and donor(s).

  • Provide matrix management and leadership to project team members; ensuring every team member understands their respective duties and responsibilities and that sub-teams are attaining their key deliverables.

  • In collaboration with the project manager and functional experts proactively identify and mitigate risks; resolve issues and communicate project-related issues to management and funders.

  • With finance and contract manager oversee overall grant/contract budget and spending.

  • Foster critical thinking and accountability within team and ensure efficient and effective decision-making.

  • Manage and ensure effective relationships with development partner(s) and donor(s) through clear and timely communication diplomacy and achievement of milestones and deliverables.

  • Create strategic linkages between the project teams and other related projects within PATH to maximize experience and use of resources

  • Oversee annual work plans and compliance with all donor requirements; lead authorship of progress reports to donor(s) prepare for and represent the project at scheduled meetings with the donor and/or partners.

  • Lead or contribute to funding proposals aimed at extending or expanding existing projects or initiating new projects in alignment with PATHs mission.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant product development experience in the pharmaceutical biotech or a related industry including significant experience in vaccine development

  • Ph.D. or M.D. (or equivalent) in biomedical sciences

  • Demonstrated proficiency in strategic complex multi-stakeholder project leadership preferably including experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry

  • Experience leading projects at all phases of development is preferred

  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements for licensing of vaccines and biological products

  • A high degree of initiative independent judgment and resourcefulness

  • Demonstrated strategic thinking strong analytical skills creativity and capacity for problem solving

  • Proven ability to write in a clear concise and organized manner and make clear and convincing oral presentations

  • Proven ability to develop networks to build alliances and to collaborate across boundaries

  • Ability to re-balance priorities on a regular basis and to assume responsibility in a multi-tasking environment

  • Ability to work flexible hours in a global environment

  • Working-level proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Teams Outlook Word Power Point) and cloud-based document management.

  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally.

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US.

PATH will consider applicants from any location globally where PATH is registered as an employer; however the incumbent must be able to work regularly within US Eastern Time working hours.

We offer our employees a competitive salary and generous benefits. For candidates based in the U.S. the annual salary range for this position is $139000-$174000. The final salary is based on a variety of objective factors.

Hybrid Work
PATH operates within a hybrid workplace model unless otherwise noted. Hybrid employees must reside within commuting distance of one of our PATH offices. PATHs US offices are located in Seattle WA and Washington DC.
