This is a professional position responsible for providing teaching and learning to residents of a correctional facility. This is an Agency specific recruitment for this specific classification and function only with the MD Department of Labor.
This position could be placed in any classification within the Teacher Series. Salary and exact classification will be determined following an assessment of the selected candidates education and MSDE Certification using the IEPP Salary Scale.

Main Purpose of Job
This position is to create a classroom learning environment in which assigned inmate students make measurable progress toward identified educational goals as indicated by the successful completion of requirements for the Maryland Certificate of Achievement in Adult Literarcy and Life Skills and/or Maryland High School Diploma.
POSITION DUTIES
Duties of this position include but are not limited to:- Provide instruction in a variety of methods to include whole group small group and individualized instruction consistent with the approved curriculm.
- Plan and organize time in advance to provide for effective instruction.
- Use informal and formal assessment tools to provide reliable and valid appraisal of student skills and achievement
- Maintain and submit program and instructional records in an accurate and timely manner.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education.
Experience: None.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicantswho possess the following preferred qualification(s).Include clear and specific information on your application regardingyour qualifications.
1) One year or more years of experience working in a correctional institution;
2) Experience providing instructions to adult learners;
3) Certification and/or experience in Language Arts and Social Studies;
4) Experience with collaborative teaching.
LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Teachers in State operated school programs are required to acquire and maintain certification to teach in the State of Maryland per Education Article Section 6-101 of the Annotated Code and Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.12.01.03B(2). Applicants recommended for appointment will be required to complete an Authorization and Verification of Credentials. Information on requirements for certification and procedures for application may be obtained from the Maryland State Board of Education 200 W. Baltimore Street Baltimore MD 21201-2595.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the division of Unemployment Insurance (LABOR/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to LABOR/DUI as a result of an unemployment insurance overpayment and/or fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
